Default Corvette C7 vs BMW 135i Boils Down to Manual vs Automatic

This video perfectly displays how driving a manual Corvette is quickly becoming a lost art form.

The last statement about the auto/manual split being higher on the C7 (in favor of the auto) is incorrect. If the C7 transmissions are running close to 50/50 (which I don't know, taking your word for it), that is a much HIGHER percentage of manuals than the past. Corvettes traditionally sell 2/3rds auto/1/3rd manual.

Considering a certain 335 I know is absolutely dead even with my C7 with E85, tune, and down pipe I think maybe the 135 is as fast as the C7?

Not in the same class as the C6 or C7 it's still a fun second car with a back seat. It's one of the reasons my 2016 C7 will be an automatic.

135 not as fast as a C7. Poor manual shift driver. Hardcore manual drivers will argue this manual driver still had more fun losing to the 135 than an auto C7 driver would have had beating the 135, because it's was more engaging to drive the manual.

same thing could be said for hard core spectators,. Something about the shift pops and burls that cant compete to the converter slippage

My C5 was a manual. I liked it a lot. But, now that I have a C7 automatic, I would never go back. Just too old and lazy to do the shifting.

One of the main reasons I sold my 11 GS auto and ordered a 16 SG M7 was the fact I missed shifting. My first car was a 68 Firebird with a 400 4 speed. I learned how to drive stick the day I had to drive that car home. Never looked back.

Sportscars need a manual in my opinion. The Vette is just so much more fun with a stick and takes more skill to drive at full potential. Although lots of high end cars have SMG, PDK, etc.... it's nice to have choices...and personally I would take a stick over auto any day.

While that 135 is a little rocket, a properly driven Vette will beat it every time.

Why did they bother with a 135, which is not being produced any longer? Seems like they hould have tested an M235i vs C7.

Corvettes with automatics serve the older owners well. It is always interesting to read how they say I got the auto because it is faster, and read all their other post on the great gas mileage they get.
Most people know why they got the automatic and it is not because it is faster, it is because they are themselves slower.

Are you speaking about JUST the older owners getting the auto? Or are you speaking on the auto itself and any who choose it? If the latter:

Actually... yes... I got it because it IS faster. And I am prob younger than you. And do you ever take your vette to the track? Because all my cars go...

Just sayin'. Generalizations will make you look stupid.

Acutally, with full bolt-ons, meth injection, e85 and tune the 135i is faster than the C7.

Upgraded internals on the twins of the N54 and it will be quite a bit faster.

I don't believe that it's just stick vs auto tranny in that video, something else has to be going on there. I used to dice it out with those Beamers when I commuted on US 1 in NC with my Volvo S60, used to give those guys fits because it was only a single turbo (they thought it had to be a twin turbo, it wasn't). If a C7 gets beat by a 135i, I've got to reconsider my future new car plans. Bummer.
