Default Battery Maintenance

I have yet to check the water level in my year old C7 and found no recommended maintenance in the owners manual. Are they sealed batteries or can I expect to find a dead battery someday?

Yes, the battery in the C7 is 'sealed'... as they all have been for the past 4 generations of the Corvette. And 'yes', some day you will have a dead battery. All batteries have a life limit and will eventually fail to maintain a charge or short our. Personally, I replace the OEM battery in any of my vehicles on its fourth birthday before I find it 'dead' at an unopportune time. I keep my Corvette battery on a battery tender if I'm not going to be using the car for more than 30 days (winter hybernation time).

Thank goodness we don't have to mess with our batteries buried in the boot! LOL

Funny, the original battery in my '08 C6 looked sealed. Manual said nothing about being able to check the water level. However when I found it was reading a low voltage after ~4 years pulled it out replaced it with an AGM Optima. Placed the old battery on a towel on my garage floor. Next day there was a stain on the towel! It had a small crack on the bottom! Then saw I could pry off some caps and sure enough one cell had the plates showing!
However in the C7 it is totally sealed as you noted. Will replace it with an AGM battery when it shows first sign of a starting problem. Sears now has an AGM battery as a replacement. An Optima battery won't fit as the top terminals have to be in a particular configuration to hold the power terminal board.

I plan on changing the whole car before battery change out time. I kept my C6 to long, missed out on model year improvements. Original battery lasted more than six years, was still working like new when I replaced it.
