Default Would you buy a '15 or '16?

Long story short I ordered a 15 back in March, didn't think it was going to come, I have been thinking about a 16 ever since May and almost pulled the trigger. I have just been informed that the 15 has been made and due in to the dealership first week in July. Heck 16's are being built and arriving soon. I am looking at Stingray 3LT Z51 convertible. I have been told price is about the same for either. I have waited this long. What would you do?

16. The 15 is a year old when you sign the papers.

I'd lean towards the '16 for about the same price.

If prices were the same, I'd want a 2016 (newer model year, different/better options, higher resale). However, prices are not the same since you can typically negotiate better prices on cars at the end of the year. So it's up to you whether the discount you can get on a 2015 is better than the benefits that come with having a 2016.

There aren't many differences between the model years, but you should still pay less for a 2015 in July with 2016s being delivered the next month.

The 2016, the 2015 is about to take a big hit in value when the 2016's come out.

Depends on whether you prefer the extra warranty on the 2015 or the features and newer model year for 2016.

How much are you going to drive it?

'15 Comes with 100k mile, 5 year powertrain warranty.

'16 Comes with a 60k mile, 5 year powertrain warranty.

Also what colors do you like. Several colors have changed for '15 and '16.

Yeah that's true about the hit when the 16s come out, but maybe you missed the part where he said he ordered a 15 in March and now it's here...

Will you lose the deposit you put down on the 15 or will the dealer let you move it to a 16? I don't see why a dealer would do that because basically they are stuck with a 2015 left over when it hits the lot...

Anyway, are the options you picked still available? Like the ZF1 appearance package is gone. If they aren't available any longer, would you still be happy with the car if it didn't have them?

Don't forget '15 gets 2 years free maintenance.

On a Z51 that is 5 free oil changes using Mobil 1.

As for the 16 being valued higher, are you buying the car to resell it?

No? Then it does not matter get the 15 with more warranty and free maintenance.

Buying new no matter if 15 or 16 is not a good investment strategy anyways.

It sounds like you had allocation issues, either an option was on constraint or the dealer didn't have any.

Either way, I'd get a '16 and use a different dealer (try one of the forum guys).

Of course if you wanted one of the colors that was replaced that may sway you the other way.

Wow- didn't your dealer force you to pay a deposit when they ordered your 2015?

That's what mine did to me back in March- which is forcing me to take delivery on my 2015, when the 2016s are now rolling off the line :-(

I don't know about that one. I still see 2014s up here that are selling for roughly the same price they cost brand new! The C7 has held it's value extremely well. Besides, if you're going to keep the car for a while, the difference in value between the 2015 and 2016 does not matter, because in 6 or 7 years time the resale of each of those years will be pretty much exactly the same. The condition of the paint and the number of miles will determine what the car is worth, not the difference between being a 2015 or 2016.

Just a caveat-if you plan on getting kalahari on your 3LT, the 16s do not have the full dash kalahari color like the 15s and 14s. Instead they have the trim on the dash like the 3LT grey and adrenaline red. For me this would have been a deal breaker as kalahari looks great when the entire dash is kalahari and misses the boat if the dash has black where kalahai once was.

True but the OP's post said he was told the price would be the same for either (but I kind of doubt it).

I guess the answer to the question between 15 or 16 depends on weather you want to drive a C7 this summer or not.

Thanks everyone. Dealer didn't require me to pay a deposit for I have bought several before from them. I was just told upfront back in March it would only take 4-7 weeks. Problem was dealership had no allocations and I had to find that out for myself and they were simply not upfront with me and still no delivery yet and it has been 12 weeks. I reckon I am just waiting to see pricing on 16's and then I will make up my mind.
Never knew it would be this difficult, but problem simply must be my dealer. Heck I am the customer. Dealer should be all over me.

Placing an order now for a 2016, you are probably looking at a September delivery unless the dealer already has an allocation in the pipeline he can spec out for you. This is also assuming your dealer can get an immediate allocation. If it took them this long to get a 2015 I would be wary. Price for an identically equipped 2016 will probably be at least $1000 higher, this is a guess but there is a $400 base price increase plus a likely increase on the 3LT package as it now includes the front cameras and the power rear hatch.

If you are going to own the car for 10+ years then it really doesn't matter. Either would be fine - get the best deal you can (probably for the '15) and go forward.

If you're going to sell it in 2 or 3 years - wait for the 2016.

Tell the dealer you are prepared to walk unless he can do you a good deal on the 15

He will get left with old stock of he doesn't play ball, and if they weren't up front with you about their allocations then it's pennance for their lack of communication

You might not get a better deal, but doesn't do any harm to ask!

Yeah, I agree with this tactic.
Request him sell it to you at the supplier discount.
Otherwise he's stuck with a 2015, when the 2016s arrives very soon.

You are SUPER lucky to have not paid a deposit.
So if they won't agree to sell at a discounted price, walk away and contact a large forum dealer to place your 2016 order.

And yes- was shocked to see that used 2014 prices were actually often higher than my new ordered 2015!
