2016-3LT Kalahari interior-a step backward?
Boy am I glad I got a 2015 Kalahari interior with my crystal red interior as the Kalahari color covers the entire dash and the door panels in addition to the regular areas. It makes the interior appear to be mostly Kalahari which contrasts very well with the crystal red.
Unfortunately this will not be the case in 2016 for the 3LT Kalahari interior as the full dash is no longer Kalahari and the door panels are no longer Kalahari. The 2016 Kalahari will be in line with the 3LT grey and red interiors with just the Kalarhari trim on the dash and all black on the door panels.
At a recent car show a few guys loved the Kalahari with the crystal red and said that would be the combo they would get. When I told them how it was changing in 2016, they all said that ended that choice for them.
In my opinion this really ruins the overall look of the 3LT Kalahari as the black, where the Kalahari was in 2015, just doesn't make it in my eyes (and the few people I talked to).
What do you guys think about this change for the 2016 3LT Kalahari interior? Positive or negative.

All personal preference....I went with 2LT red interior because I didn't like the extra red on the dash the came with the 3LT

Like you, some will hate the new interior look and some will like it. I personally think it's too much Kalahari on the 15's so I have no issue with the change.

I agree with you. I put in my order for the 2016 3LT before the final specs came out and am disappointed with the overall downsizing of the Kalahari interior. But because I really want the Long Beach Red I am waiting extra time for my car to come in. At this point I'd be happy with a potato sack interior if it got me my car sooner.

Personal Preference aside, My guess is it's about GM making less parts with a certain color.
They've standardized production with every car having Black door Panels and Dashes.
Regardless of the reason, IMO it takes away from what a 3LT Interior is, or was, all about.
Of course that's just my opinion

Personally, having a 3LT kalahari interior, I'd say the full kalahari dash and door panels give the interior a look that is almost European, like the full leather interior in our 2006 Porsche. I never understood why the other 3LT interiors were done differently than the kalahari interior. Now I have a one- year color and two-year interior.

I'm missing where we learned about this change. Are there pics or specs somewhere?

The 2016 actually looks better, more updated and richer and a step forward than the previous years IMO. Great job GM!

I agree with the OP the new Kalahari interior for 2016 is a backwards move.
I am glad as well my 2015 3LT/CR will be a unique color combo going forward.
The full interiors is more in line with the Euro cars.
I get GREAT complements from every one that looks at the car.
