Default Is 3LT Dash Leather Coated

Just curious, I know the seats have a coating on them for Longevity, but does the dash and door panels have the same coating on the 3LT. Was thinking of UV damage, Stains, and shrinking from the Sun exposure. Anybody have an idea on this...

PS; Happy 4th...

If a drop of water does not soak in it's probably coated.

Yes, Chevrolet does not offer a quality leather, it's all covered and can be cleaned with regular cleaner. Leather conditioner does not do anything.

Mr. Boson is correct - Leather conditioner does not do anything on coated leather.

On older non-coated leather it is a lifesaver, but when I apply it to my new coated leather it looks just like it did before the application.

Exactly what in your opinion defines leather as being of high or low quality? Whether or not it's not coated? I'd think the coating would help the leather be less susceptible to damage.

Sit in your Chevy and feel the leather seats. Take note your car smells like rich plastic.

Go to the local Mercedes dealership and ask them if they have an S550 or S63 or S65 or S600 Maybach with Nappa Leather and sit in that, feel the leather and smell the interior.

Then you will see what I mean. If the feel and smell are trivial to you, nothing wrong with that. They are trivial to me in my Vette or my truck but important to me in my daily driver.

The only reason I get leather in my truck is that it's easier to keep clean and less smelly than cloth. It's vinyl/leather.

It does, it's less likely to water stain. Very desirable with kids and pets. The 3LT has Napa leather, the 1LT and 2LT have Mulan leather. Mulan leather is made from grinding leather into almost a powder, mixing it with something like vinyl, and rolling it into sheets. Napa is an actual leather with a protective coating.

The leather in my 14 Durango looks better than most of what GM produces.

I agree, go to Mercedes Benz, Audi, BMW, etc. Their cars don't smell like plastic.

Ok . I want someone to name a car for this money which has "fine" leather.

Just sayin' .

I don't think anyone can do that . Let alone with the performance that the Vette packs .

I dont think anyone is complaining about it or arguing the point. Just an observation at this price point. I think they should call it "non-cloth" instead of leather.

Thanks for the replies, and yes the seats don't smell like the leather I've had in previous cars [still has that leathery smell, kinda]. In Chevy's defense, perhaps the seats will hold up much better. Thought the Dash and Door Panels were different, they don't feel as smooth as the seats...

I believe the only way to get leather lined dash was 4LT my 3LT does not have a leather dash. It's a rather pricey difference.

Are you sure your C7 has the 3LT option? I do and my dash is covered in leather.

(My 2010 C6 had the 4LT option and it also had a leather dash).

What you said is true for the C6. With the C7, 3LT is the top trim level and includes leather-wrapped dash and door panels.

The high end cars may smell better, but they too are plastic coated. Unless it's a custom build, the leather will be finished....It's almost a given if the car has warranty.

It does, which is the point in using it, it lasts longer. I was actually sad when my brand new Mustang GT barely had any new car smell at all. Apparently Ford has reduced the amount of "harmful" chemicals used in their interiors. The leather smells good (what there is of it, since the bolsters are pleather). The coating will eventually wear off though, and then it'll be time to break out the conditioner.

And I think the generic term for this type of "leather" is "bonded leather" which is the term used in furniture.

They offer what everybody else in the automotive industry does. Nobody uses uncoated leather in an automobile unless they want it to fail.
