100% of what you paid for it?!?!?!?!!?!? Nooooooo!!!!
OP would lose $15K on the mods. I don't know how much your sales tax is or how it works but where I live its 6.5% of the difference between trade in and new car. i.e. if you bought the Z for 100K and got $70K on the trade you would pay tax on $30K or $1,950. Then you have vehicle tax, title and license. Where I live, on the Z that would be around another $1000.
So just on those few things its really more like $18,000...and then he owes $30K more even after all that?!?!?!
I guess everyone has to make their own judgement about what its worth. But to me, making the decision to do all the mods would be basically a decision to keep the car for the long haul. Surprised the dealer would give that good a trade on it as mods generally constitute personalization...which may be worth it to the owner. But then the car is personalized to that particular owner which for a dealer = bigger risk he won't be able to get his money back out of it.

To Z, or not to Z--that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune and friends mocking ye aftermarket laden 14'
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles with a state of the art OEM equipped monster
And by opposing end them. To die, to sleep no more, to extend ones payments by two years
And by a sleep to say we end month's of extra farthings in ye pocket
The heartache, and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to. 'Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep--
To sleep--perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub...

That would be cool. Here in IA I had to write a check to the state of Iowa for $3200 to get my first tags. $610ish a year for the privilege of getting another set of tags. Before I've even owned the car for a year, I'll spend nearly $4k in taxes and reg fees.

Alright guys I'm having a dilemma and value your input so here it goes...
I currently own a 14' 1Lt (my avatar) with $15k worth of go fast goodies making 655whp...
My dealer recently agreed to give me %100 what I paid for it 1.5 years ago leaving me out the $15k in parts if I trade it in on a 16' Z06.
My payment only changes by $50 to make the trade (Lotta equity in my 14')
Not going to lie, I'm sorta sentimental and attached to my 14' lol we've had some good times...
Would you trade in the 14' for a 16' Z or just keep the 14'? From a financial aspect the only difference is my principle balance increases by $30k but the payment doesn't...
Erghhhh I'm stuck...
Opinions wanted!
Thanks!

Also, weigh the feature enhancements you'll get with the Z? Are they worth $30K to you? Many of us are quick to tell others to go for it but it's not like your in a bad car to begin with. I own a 14 C7 and love it. It's exactly what I need and even a lot more.

I say go for it. The $30K in loss is nothing compared to the extra value you are receiving. When you added all of that additional power, did you upgrade brakes, transmissions and everything else to properly handle the extra power? If not, those changes alone may be worth a big chunk of the money lost.
Just make sure you tell us what you decided on.

Ouit with the old in with the new. Do it.
Does your dealer even know about the mods in the car? If not I would strip it down to stock and sell those parts

It sounds like your dealer has lined up a pretty good deal for you so I'd say go for it. The $16K loss for the '14 mods might sting a bit, but I'm sure you'll forget all about it when you're behind the wheel of that Z06.

If a dealer truly offered 100% of what was paid for a '14 stingray, I would not hesitate to jump at that offer. Seems insane and completely unrealistic that any reputable dealer could offer that even towards a Z06, makes no sense. If it's real you should RUN to accept that offer!

Ive driven a C7 Z06 and a Stingray with a Centri blower. I will take the stingray with the centri anyday. Matter if fact in the spring I will be sending my A8 Z51 for an ECS kit!!

You never get squat for mods on a trade... It's generally best to remove and sell them separate.
Without question- get the Z

Personally, I feel like the gap between the C7 and C7Z isn't as big as it has been the last two generations. Throw on a stage 1 kit and the average person can't tell the difference, the Z is what... an inch wider? Literally every other day somebody asks me if it's a Z06. I need a funny response to that one.
So, once you up the power is it really that much better of a car? I think I'll probably turbo mine in a couple years after hearing how this one sounds:

I'd wait till they fix the heat soak, grenading engines and tranny over temp problems.

My opinion isn't based on the financial aspect, but what you want out of the car. I'm in love with my highly modded 2014, just as you are. I've had the opportunity to put 500 miles on a Z06 over the last two weeks and loved doing so. However, doing so convinced me that I don't really need a Z06. The reasons I would stick with my 2014 Stingray are: more comfortable ride, all the power I really need, and better fuel economy on trips. I won't have my C7 on the track much at all, and besides the incredible looks of the Z06, all of the highway travel that I have done and will continue to do in my Stingray causes me to give the nod to my Stingray over a Z06. If money isn't the issue, consider the other factors based on how you use your C7. The best part is that you can't really go wrong either way.
