Default Why no factory matte paint offerings by GM?

I wonder if GM will ever offer us corvette enthusiasts some matte paint colors to choose from. IMO a matte black, blue, or gray would look amazing on a C7. Maybe if others feel the same way perhaps GM might respond to its customers request. This car is getting worldwide attention. these matte paint colors are offered on European cars. It would be a no brainier for GM especially since they can charge a premium for the paint. GM, are you listening.

I personally think the matte finish paint fad is ugly and it cannot pass soon enough. Its an excuse not to maintain a good looking car in my book.

IMHO

Because currently their marketing team doesn't see enough of a market for matte colors?

Why not plastidip/wrap? Unlimited options for more exotic colors and it's not permanent.

BMW went thru this and the colors sat on the floor.

And I'd just like GM to do the colors right on the ones they make now, let alone new stuff.

Are you kidding? They can't paint normal colors properly now let alone exotic finishes.

The matte is actually a much easier finish to apply. Does not show nearly the imperfections as there are no light reflections. Even minor body work imperfections are hidden.

1) Nobody wants matte colors. If they did you'd see ALOT more cars with them. I like in the DC Metro area with 10 million commuters. I have NEVER seen a factory painted matte car. Pretty much everyone I've ever seen has been a wrap.. and even then it was only at cars & coffee events. Matte paint is right up there with 22" wheels. Very, very few people want them.. and those that do can easily get them from the aftermarket.

2) So agree on the colors. GM has never done orange or green the way it should be done. While Lamborghini & Viper have nailed it several times. I'd also like to see GM offer a true "shark gray" like what Lamborghini & Audi offers.

I'd also like to see GM offer some more fun colors on the C7. Look at what Porsche does with the orange, blue, green and even purple cars. It's a *look at me* sports car.. why are they so few *look at me* colors available? The C7 is a flagship car that should make a statement. There is no reason why it should offer the same color selection as the Cruze.. which is intended NOT to make a statement.

Finally, what is up with the over-the-top red interior. It's so blindly bright red.. that people actually prefer the 1LT car, because the 2LT/3LT is too much color. I'm glad to see GM offers some two colors for the red interior to 'calm it down' some. But the color is still so bright. The color of the red interior should be slight darker & deeper in tone, instead of the cherry red lipstick they chose.

If it was offered at an extra cost, that would allow people to order that, if they want.

The paint shop has capacity for a finite number of colors, currently limited to ten. (That of course may change with the new paint facility that's being built.) Under the present system, if they added a matte color they'd have to eliminate an existing one.

Also agree that matte will be a niche desire and they won’t sell well, and if so, GM doesn’t care. Don

Too little demand to even consider.

How much does it cost to actually wrap a C7 with a matte finish though? Would that end up around the same range as getting a matte paint job?

I doubt it, custom colors are very expensive. A good wrap is not that expensive in comparison, custom paint from Lambo and others is 15k.
True, they are hand painted, but for GM to offer these finishes they would, more than likely, be hand painted.
Besides GM is a very stick in the mud corporation, they lean just a little bit right of Ross Perot.

We had matte finishes in the 70s, but we called it primer.

I'd personally take a wrap if I could get one in that Plastidip Orange color I've seen on the forums a bunch of times.
