Default Roof Prices

Was on one of our vendor sites and noticed that a carbon fiber factory painted roof is $2495 while the transparent roof is $1685. So the transparent roof is $800 cheaper then the painted roof but on purchasing the car GM charges $900 more for the transparent roof option. Seems better to get the painted roof from GM originally then order the transparent from the vendor paying only $700 more for both tops. GM must really like when the transparent top is ordered as it is cheaper then the painted top and they get an additional $900 profit. Just saying but love my 15.

The painted roof is on 34% constraint. If you want a C-7 anytime soon you will have to probably order the transparent roof. GM knows the car is a hot seller and they are only going to make around 35k, plus GM gets an extra 900 for the transparent roof. GM's carbon fiber vender for the roof's will not increase their production. This sucks.

GM really should offer the transparent roof as a deduction off MSRP instead of an option since it costs them more for the painted carbon fiber roof then it costs them for the transparent roof. If you want a Vette now you are stuck and they know it and a profit of an extra $900 for them and the savings of not using the painted roof, so if the cost is approx $2500 for painted and $1600 for transparent GM makes out about $1800 by keeping it on constraint. Wonder if it is the vendor not wanting to ramp up production or GM really telling them not too. Either way GM should not charge extra for something that costs them less and limits our choices.

I am picking up my white stingray this week and it comes with both painted and clear roof. I wanted the car so I paid for them both. I figured I would sell one of them after buying the car.

Then is there not an "unpainted" CF roof that shows the CF effects and is painted on the edges near the windows???? Or is that an aftermarket product.......

Everyone seems to be confusing retail price with GMs cost. They are not the same thing. Part of the high price on the carbon fiber roof is, no doubt, a supply vs demand issue. Besides, GM charges what they think the market will bear for options. Option prices are a balancing act to keep the price at a point that demand is high enough to support cost effective production and still produce a profit.

You should hash over your pemise and conclusions here.....you found a vender that offers their $1685 trans top for $700.....if you bought a Corvette with the painted roof. So now you have both roofs for the car at just $700? ......Ah huh.

Interesting...on the factory tour two weeks ago I did not see one single transparent roof. Most of them were carbon painted body color or the bare carbon.

I am very thankful I ordered early and avoided this current restraint. I think GM underestimated the ratio of coupes to convertibles.

GM is selling way more coupes than they thought they would vs the convertibles.

Was implying on GM costs, they save miney as the transparent cost them less then the csrbon fiber and then get additional profit of $900 as an option

I would be careful comparing the cost of roofs. The $2800 painted carbon roof offered by vendors on the forum are not the same top. They use the same roof hardware, but they are getting their carbon panels from a different vendor than gm. This is true for both the exposed carbon and painted carbon roof panels.
