Should I give up my iPod Classic? Need Advice.
So, I'm having issues with my ipod classic trying to use it in my C7. If I buy a new ipod will the 4th Gen ipod Touch work without any issues? The price has dropped below $200 so I am considering one. I just bought a new LG4 so I am not in the market for an iphone. Thanks.
Added: My ipod classic is an 80 GB model and after looking at the comparably sized Touch models I am rethinking my options. Is there any way to upgrade the software/firmware of the Classic so that it will function better in the C7? I really would like to keep it.

I have over 3500 songs and many playlists loaded onto my ipod. Really would like to keep them. I have no idea how to load them onto a flash drive while retaining the file structure since the SD card option isn't available in the 2016s.

Those services have millions of albums as opposed to your 3500

While the selection is superior, the quality isn't. I'd rather rip my own discs at a higher bit rate and have the music that I prefer available to me, and use the other services as a supplement.
The SD card slot is gone, so that just forces you to use the USB slot. Loading the content is the same whether SD or USB media is used. I had bought a 64GB SD card and loaded it up, but having just recently learned this development I ordered a SanDisk 64GB Ultra Fit USB to use instead.

Spotify can stream at 320kbps and apple music is very close to that.
You would be EXTREMELY hard pressed to tell the difference between that and a CD in an ideal listening room. When it comes to car listening, for obvious reasons (road noise) there is no one on earth that can tell the difference.

Also FYI... I just ran across this thread, and one of the posters was able to get his going:

Make sure your device is updated with the latest, use a good cable, and try the USB port behind the screen.
Hope this helps?

I gave up my old IPod Classic when it's battery went lame. Went the SD card route (USB stick is the same way). I formatted the card FAT32, made a root directory on the card, copied all my music files to the root directory, and then used Windows Media Player to make playlists & copy them to the root directory also.
I did use a freeware utility called "MP3GAIN" to equalize the volume level of all the music files.
My music files were exported in .mp3 & .mp4 format which some say is not the absolute best format but the Vette certainly doesn't reproduce concert quality sound anyway. That and my old ears wouldn't know the difference either.

Since you have CarPlay why not get a used iPhone 5? I'm switching to my iPhone 6 Plus exclusively because of this. I was previously using an iPod Classic on my last car but it was a real hassle.

Dump the iPod and get a 128GB (or smaller) San Disk Micro USB Drive.
Use iTunes Export to export your playlists and then plug it in and forget about it (until you need to add more music).
I have one in my Focus right now, and I purchased a second one for my Corvette (which I'm ordering in the spring) after testing the system on another MyLink car.
$80 for the 128 GB stick is way more economical than an iPod. Smaller USB sizes are even more economical.

I have iTunes organize my music on my PC and with iTunes Export (Google it, it is a separate application) you can export all your playlists and your music directly to the USB drive!
You NEED to make sure you have the correct ID3v2 Tags to have all the files index correctly. iTunes can make ID3v2 tags on your files (select a song and click "Convert ID3 Tags...") and you need to set the tag to version 2.3 NOT 2.4. If you select all songs at once (using Ctrl + A) you can do this in one fell swoop.
The difficulty becomes songs with older ID3v1 Tags which need to be removed. The app MP3tag can do this. This should only be a problem if you have MP3's that are ripped from CDs from over 5 years ago (iTunes used to use V1 not V2 for the ID3 tags). So if all your MP3s are new don't worry about V1 tags!
I really should write a PDF for this with screen shots, but I just haven't had time.

With iTunes Export it is. I have 135 playlists and over 8500 songs.

My iPod touch worked perfectly fine with my '15. I ended up ditching it because 32 GB wasn't enough space. Ended up getting a 64GB USB stick and just copy and pasted from my MP3 folder.
