But ... do you drive your 'ordinary' C7 at the limits of its performance, and find it lacking? If not, what are you going to do with the extra 200hp?
Why do people always use this argument? It's fallacious. Because you actually ARE using the power of your current car. Unless you never put your foot to the floor, which is highly doubtful.

The extra 200HP isn't wasted if you aren't at 10/10ths regularly. The car is quicker and better at all driving speeds. Getting onto an on ramp, gunning it from a stoplight. Everywhere. You just don't have to flog it as hard to get that grin going, and the piper limits are higher.

I know the feeling. I intended to buy a C6 Z51 in May 2007 and ended up with a C6Z.

If you have the financial means to get the Z06, and it will make you happy, go for it. The Z06 is a beast.

Purchasing cars has nothing to do with "rational sense." One must operate on impulsive, gut instinct and the size of your check book.

The Zo6 is tempting. I had C6 and my plan was to wait for C7 Zo6, or at least second year of C7. I assumed like with C6 would get more goodies. However, i test drove a 2014 A6 Z51 LT3 and fell in love. My solution to Zo6 fever when they started showing up was a centrifugal supercharger (ECS). However, it sounds like you are more about the looks than the power. As per my other posts, I think the looks are amazing but the roads here in the Northeast make me wary of anything even lower, stiffer, with more ground effects.

This is why I try not to get too close to the Z06. I have low resistance!

That pretty much sums up my life of Corvette ownership, there is always one better than the one I have, which is a curse because I never end up being satisfied! For instance, I bought my C5 used in August 2004, just as the C6 came out, and for the entire 9 years I owned that car I lusted after the C6. When I finally got a C6, it was April 2013, just a few months before the C7 hit the street and ever since then I've lusted after the C7 so bad!! Unfortunately a new one is priced out of my reach and the used ones are priced even higher! They need to come down to under $40,000 before I'm even close to a position to get one, but used ones here are rarely below $70,000 (I saw one for $55k in the spring and one for $59k last week but that's about it for the cheaper ones)

I feel the same way. These Corvettes, whether a base Stingray or Z51 have more than enough power for our American roads and interstates. Yes, at times, we all want to be that race car driver, and get down on the peddle. In most cases however, we drive these cars at normal limits, so if your not going to track your car, in my opinion, you get more than enough HP with basic models (Stingray & Z51). However, many people at mid to older ages have deep pockets to afford a Z06 or Z07 which undoubtly are some of the coolest looking American made sports cars on the roads today.

Personally I could not be happier with my 460 HP Stingray. It's one awesome driving machine, and I too, have this C7 just the way I want it.

If the money is insignificant, go for it. If not, think hard.
Very good points and I totally agree, especially with the first comment.

It took five years for the C6 GS to be released, so that's probably about when GM will do a C7 widebody(non Z06).
I thought that as well but after doing the math, I don't know if there is enough room for GM. A similarly equipped 3LT/Z51 and 3LZ/Z06 are about $17K difference so I think a wide body Stingray would "Grand Sport" would need to be justified around $90K if similarly equipped.

I love the looks of the Stingray with the Z51 wheels/trim, but I also lust after the Z06 on looks alone. I'm thinking Longbeach Red with Jet Black Interior with red stitching. I just priced a 2016 and it came in at $103K with the options I want. If GM could provide a wide body version that looks just as aggressive as the Z06 and a HP bump over the Stingray at around $85K I would really consider it.

My first wife would disagree with most of the comments about "if you want something, just go and get it" :-) :-):-):-)

I would only move up to a zo6 if I fell into an incredible deal on it, the kind of deal that you would be dumb not to take.

Dropping another 20 to 30 grand and getting the same basic looking car, doesn't make sense to me, (I can make changes to the engine and get more power than the Z.)

Now if we were talking that ZORA, then I might make the move if I had the cash to burn at the time.

I wanted to get a Z06 at first but then I got an incredible deal on a Z51 2LT for 50,300$ with 1900 miles with extended warranty on it (Clean carfax) on it SG with AR, then I thought to myself it wouldn't make sense if I let the deal go and spend 30k to get the Z06. If i was still in the market I'd wait a couple of months and get a used Z06.

I think there is no comparison between a base C6, which is utterly boring IMHO, and a stingray, non-z, which is very sleek and sexy. I get much more attention with my Blade Silver stingray than I ever got with my C6 Z06 back in the spring of 2006.

But just when you get a Z06, the Zora will come out. Then just when you buy the Zora, the C8 will come out. Then just when the.....you get it. After 10 Corvettes, I've learned to "just say no"!
