6 Hours of Nürburgring & C7 race car (lots of pics)
I found myself at the Nürburgring yesterday to do a track day. It happened to be at the same time there was a Championship Endurance race called the "6 Hours of Nürburgring" on the GP track. So I took a couple of hours and checked it out. The ticket included pit and garage areas so I walked around. I guess I was totally surprised to come across a C7 race car.
It was a great event in absolutely beautiful hot weather. It was perfect for my track time on the Nordschleife. But I'll save that for another story. I hope you enjoy all of the photos.
Last photo is a Porsche but it was owned and driven by the actor Patrick Dempsey.

Here's the fun fact of the day. That's the same C7.R that Corvette Racing borrowed after they crashed one of their at LeMans. They couldn't repair the frame in time, so they borrowed this one from Larbre, shipped it to the US, raced it at Watkins Glen and then Mosport. The Larbre team just got it back a week or two ago.

That's really cool! Cool pics. I would love to go to the Nurburgring some time. I watched the WEC livestream for a bit, but had to go to a wedding.
I was really surprised to learn that there are so few C7R chassis in the world when the Corvette Racing car had to borrow one of the Larbre cars to turn into the #3 over here. Good ol' racing - always learning something new.

Cool.
Just a reminder, Lone Star Lemans is coming up in a little over two weeks. Practice is on Thursday, 17 September with racing on Friday and Saturday. The six hours starts at 4 pm Saturday.

I might as well share the last photo too, and the reason I went to the Nürburgring, to drive the infamous Nordschleife! It was the experience of a lifetime.

Given this was my first time, I wasn't looking for a massively powered vehicle. Without knowing the track, having all that power is wasted

I agree, I did a few laps there last year in a 4 series BMW and it was a blast, something I had always wanted to do. I think I spent half of the each lap looking in the mirrors for people that were passing me

When you are flat out it's the only time I missed the Vette, otherwise, in the corners you have your hands full. On Sunday, the weather was warm (mid-80s) and the track was dry. With the other race that was going on, plus all the added people. The track was at near record capacity. The speeds the "fast" cars were attempting was pushing the safety but that's all part of what makes this place special. There was only one lap of 6 that didn't have a yellow flag due to a caution (accident). The track was being opened and closed all day due to even more serious accidents. All part of the excitement of the Ring. I'll just say again, unless you know the track and the 70+ corners, there isn't much need for too much horsepower. At least not until you get a feel for it. If you are only doing a few laps as I did, it wouldn't have made sense to double the cost of the rental for more HP. Of course this is just my opinion. Your mileage may vary. I think it's well worth a visit to try it for yourself. It was amazing!
