[QUOTE=Mike Campbell;1590527975]My good buddy Joe showed up with a sweet roadster back when we were stationed together at Ft. Belvoir, VA. Here's an original picture and riding in that car, with a 340 hp 327 got me hooked.
Amazing, I was stationed at Ft Belvoir back in the fall of 1964 as part of my 6 months active duty in the Delaware Nat Guard, 198th Army Aviation. I picked out the below new '65 327/300 Silver Vert 4spd at Sunny Stein's in Philly, PA on a weekend leave and picked it up on Dec 28th, 1964 when discharged, still in uniform! Oh to be 21 again.
This was taken in early January, 1965 getting back to civilian life.

Mike, I look forward to your weekly threads and this one is my favorite. Great story and pictures. What did it for me was my Uncle's brand new 1966 Silver Corvette Coupe. I loved going for rides in that car as a kid. In 1972 he bought a new Orange Corvette Convertible. I learned to drive a 4 spd manual in that one. In 1978 I bought my first Corvette, this 1974 Coupe.
I went to a lot of the Malcolm Konner Corvette shows.

Great post Mike.
When I was 20 my dream was to own a 70 Chevelle SS 454/450 with no A/C, 4 speed, bucket seats, black with white stripes. When I went to the Chevy dealer in Yonkers, NY, I had to bring my parents with me to co-sign the loan since I wasn't 21 yet. When all was said and done, my parents talked me into a 70 Chevelle 350/300 automatic, convertible, black with white interior and top. Needless to say it was a nice looking car but not really what I wanted. And I probably wouldn't be here today had they let me get the SS454. :-)
So, about 18 months later I decided to get a used Stingray. I didn't need my parents to co-sign for me this time. I found a nice 69 White Stingray, 4 speed, 350/300 (I could have bought a 67 Silver 427/390 at the same place but I wanted the C3 style. Boy was I wrong). I paid $3,200 for the 69 with 19,000 miles on it. In the next 12 months I put 38,000 additional miles on it and sold it for $3,200 with 57,000 miles on it. I loved that car.
About a month after I sold it, two detectives showed up at my door to ask me about it. I told them where I bought it and where I sold it and they then told me it was a stolen car. The private owners I bought it from dealt in stolen cars. I should have known it since, when I arrived to buy the 69, there were about 8 other Corvettes sitting on their lawn. 22 and naive I guess. I never heard from the detectives after that.
Fast forward 34 years--during which time I always wanted another Corvette--and I was able to buy my 07 C6 in Arizona. I kept it for 7 years. I told my wife "this is the last Corvette I will ever need" and then, in 2013 the C7 was introduced and I said to my wife "honey, I lied. The C7 is the last Corvette I'll ever need." So I bought my current C7 in February, 2014 and it is, by far, the best Corvette I have ever owned or driven. PS....I used to live in Mahwah, NJ and I can't tell you how many times I drove by Malcolm Conner Chevrolet on Rt 17. Pictures of my story.
My 70 Chevelle in Yonkers, NY.
My 69 Stingray in Yonkers, NY.

And thanks for your Sunday posts.

Melting Slicks
This is exactly why I laugh at people who post things like "I never liked Corvettes until I saw the C7".
You either get it or you don't. Great pictures.

This is the first Corvette I ever drove, and actually raced it for 3+ years over 40 years ago at Orange County International Raceway.
It belonged to my neighbor. At the same time I daily drove the blue 1960 to my first year in college in 1974.
Here's the now:
1957 Top Flight Fuelie
Restored original 1954, Blue Flame 6.
Weekend driver, 383 crate motor, 700R4 overdrive auto trans. This picture was taken New Years Day 2016 (last week) just before the
start of the Tour d'Orange, and is posted on their Facebook Page.
Latest addition, original 1961 Powerglide car. Needs restoration.
Future: A 2016 Z51 a lot like this is arriving at Selman Chevrolet for my wife the middle of next week.
