Had a short trip today. Have found that the computer generated mileage readouts have coincided pretty well with numbers obtained by using the odometer and gallons pumped at the gas station.
25 miles mostly downhill was 37.8 mpg, the return trip on the same road (interstate) 25 miles was 31.3 for a 34.6 mpg average, most of the time the car was on cruise control at 70-75. 2014 base model A6.
Gross gas guzzler, right?
Overall, with plenty of short trips/errands, at 7000 miles my average is 24+ mpg. Don
It's easy to get high numbers over a short run by playing with the throttle and terrain. True numbers come out over a full tank or several tanks of fuel. Here's the numbers from my last trip over every type of terrain and driving condition;

You're right and my intent was to infer that. I didn't play mileage games, the car was on cruise control. My suspicion was that on generally flat interstate conditions, the car would generate mileage numbers around 30 after several tanks. Don
I just completed a 5601 mile trip from East Tennessee to the southwest, looping back through the gulf states.
I averaged 27.3 miles per gallon and averaged 52 mph.
I also set a new "Best 50" mpg at 41.6 mpg, probably on the downhill run across the Continental Divide.
My best around home is 33.5 mpg.
Its hard to believe a high performance car can get such good mileage. Beats my wife's 4 cylinder Nissan.
way better then any c6 i had. On my way back from Maryland when i picked up my 14 last month i averaged 32.2 and i didn't even know about "E" mode at the time.
FWIW, my '14 has much worse gas consumption, than either my '05 or my'09.
My '05 LS2 got about 19, my '05 LS3 gets about 21. My LS7 got about 20 (I have no doubt the current owner gets much more or much less depending on why he bought it ).
And yes, I am a bit of a lead-foot; I didn't buy it for the gas savings.
Just finished a 4400 mile trip across the country after taking delivery at the Museum, and I can attest that my '16 Z51 gets nowhere near the incredible mileage that my wife's '14 coupe did under similar circumstances.
Not sure whether they have tweaked the Eco settings, how much the A6 vs A8 affects it, or the 241 vs 273 gearing differences, but the new car 'only' got a best of 32.6 for the 50 mile counter. We have many stretches between 36 - 38 on hers, with an all time high of 49.7 on our return trip 15 months ago.

My lifetime MPG has been 14 so far- even with it left primarily in ECO mode.
Kinda disappointing, especially with premium still costing $3.39/gallon.
Wish the engineers had implemented start/stop technology for all the long traffic lights around here.
Wow, some of these figures are wild for a performance beast! My best run has been 30.4 but my overall average reported by the DIC and calculated by hand is 24.1 for 7900 miles. I am definitely happy with that.

I simply don't know how you can be averaging 14mpg unless you're matting the throttle at most every opportunity. Don
