The number #27 fuse under the cargo carpet in the rear disables OnStar. Pulling the # 26 fuse in the engine compartment shuts off those goofy looking illuminated icons along the lower edge of the mirror.

You don't pay for OnStar and nobody is going to spend the time or pennies monitoring your car or your conversations when they don't have to. Nobody, no matter how interesting your life may be.

If you don't want to be tracked stop worrying about your non existent OnStar account and power off your cell phone.

We all know it's Al Gore's fault to start with. None of this would have happened if he hadn't invented the internet.

I stopped answering my phone years ago. 1 out of every 100 calls is someone who leaves a message. Good rule of thumb is block anonymous and Private numbers and don't answer any 800,888,877 etc calls. Problem addressed.

I love the folks worrying about being tracked by OnStar. Do you carry a cell phone? If so, you can be tracked. Even surfing the internet, sites are gathering all kinds of data about you, your spending habits etc. If your so worried about being tracked, toss your cell phone away and put tin foil on your head. Ive never had OnStar interrupt me while driving.

Mike02Z, I was not referring to my personal cell phone. I know quite well how to block numbers on it. I was referring to the phone number assigned to the car by OnStar. Someway, somehow, it was given out and ended up on a call list. If you have never had OnStar call your vehicle after the free trial has ended, you are quite lucky. The only way that I am aware of to stop it other than to pull the fuse is by calling them prior to the end of the trial period and requesting that the account associated with your vehicle be closed. It is wise to request a conformation letter too.

That sucks Mike. No one ever calls my OnStar number. I guess I've just been lucky so far.

I NEVER give them my CC. I negotiate every year. I have 2 cars and I typically pay 250 per year for both cars. You have to threthen to cancel but it has worked for 5 years.

heh. I have a card from OnStar upon which is printed the phone number issued to the '15 Corvette that I no longer own. There would be absolutely nothing stopping me from giving it out any time I am asked for a phone number when writing a check, making an internet purchase, etc. If that number ever gets on a call list, whoever now owns that car would get all kinds of sales calls. I would never give OnStar or Sirius XM my cc number. I know better than that.

Same thing I did.

The dealer asked me if I wanted to activate it when he was pointing out the features I said don't bother I never wanted it anyway.

Bowling Green enforces the activation during the R8C process. Also, GM is now all over the dealers to insure that OnStar is activated at the point of delivery. ymmv

My onstar never worked, tried to activate it at MacMulkin and it wouldn't connect. Tried again since and the small led light on the rear view mirror has always been red. I was told I need a module replaced to make it work. I really have no need for it so I never had it fixed.

You were lucky. One of the reasons I was told at the museum for the attempt to activate is that OnStar must get the buyers info first from the selling dealer. The museum catches flack from G M if the attempt is not made. It took Ken F. two times forcing the info through the system before I was able to verify that it was a go. The first time I pressed the button and OnStar answered, the operator had no idea who I was or where the vehicle was.

I didn't even start the process on my second C7 and they haven't attempted to contact me.

Does the auto-dim function still work if you pull #26?

I let my free trial expire. Since I never gave them a credit card, they had no way to try to keep it active, and I've never received a call from them (on my cell or via OnStar) since. I got some emails leading up to the end of the trial, and maybe a few since, but that's all.

That's funny, I did museum delivery in October and they only mentioned OnStar and told me I should activate it to get my included service. They didn't make any attempt at activation there. I never had any use for or desire to activate the service so I never did. Haven't ever heard from OnStar other than a few emails and snail mails.

It may depend on who is assigned as ones vip guide. Only reason I pushed the blue button is that doing so stops the nag warning at vehicle start up.

When doing the paper work for my 2016 at the Dealer, they asked if I wanted to activate Onstar and I said no.
Signed an Onstar paper to confirm I didn't want Onstar and that was that.
