Default How to disable OnStar???

Did the "search" and found nothing. With my C6 I just removed the windshield antenna. How can I disable On-Star in my C7? This isn't a discussion about why you should keep On-Star, it's how to remove it.

Locate the fuse & pull-it, Walt.
If it's like C6 you're golden, OS is no longer powered.

One of my posts gives the fuse number. It is in the engine compartment fuse box.

I've been told pulling this fuse will generate a CEL, but haven't tried to verify that. Let us know what happens.

My fuse has been out for over a year. I just had the car serviced last week and everything is fine. The red & blue lights in the mirror are disabled and the automatic dimming probably is too.

Yes Walt, just go into your fuse box and pull the OnStar fuse.

Thanks for this tips folks. I assume the fuses are labeled. I wanted to perform this as well on my 16 Z06 - mostly because at night, those blue and red lights on the rear view mirror are just to damn bright. For me at least, makes it hard looking at them.....but heck, I'm getting old which helpin either.

Thanks again.

Geen2000 thought that pulling the fuse might also eliminate the auto dimming of the rear view mirror. Can anyone confirm that possibility?

According to the Operational Manual the fuse is #27 that is located in the fuse block in the rear of the car for OnStar. It also appears that fuse #26 in the fuse block in the engine compartment is for the "Inside Rearview Mirror" so it looks like it has its own dedicated circuit.

So I pulled the OnStar Fuse #27 in the rear fuse block and here is what I've found:

1. I get a red "X" through the GPS indicator in the Navigation Screen.

2. I no longer see the indication of direction of travel on the "speedometer" screen next to the indication of gear selection.

3. The navigation system seems to work even with the red X through the GPS indicator.

4. The OnStar indicators in the rear view mirror are still "lighted".

Is this what others have experienced?

You are correct. I disconnected the #27 and my compass stoped working so I reconnected it. My OnStar must still be functional. The #26 does as you say and disconnects the auto dimming and the OnStar red & blue lights.

Just fuse # 27 is all I did. I do not have the nav option and never paid attention to direction of travel nonsense anyway. All lights in the mirror are out also. I have a base 1lt car no side effects from the onstar fuse pull at all.

I put the fuse (#27) back in because I have Nav and I like to see the compass direction. Does anyone know where the OnStar antenna is?

I think the actual antenna is by the windshield rear view mirror. The hook up is behind the glove box. Brown connector I believe.

Not paying the OnStar bill will "disable" it.

This is good to know. I do not have navigation so I will have the fuse removed while the car is at 21st Century being lowered and having the sway bar kit installed. Many thanks to Walt and all the other early adapters.
