Headed To Spring Mountain….Question
Headed to Spring Mountain next week and read where it is recommended to purchase driving shoes. For those that have been, did you purchase driving shoes and what brand? If you did not purchase driving shoes, what do you recommend? Thanks!

with rev match, they don't do heel toe exercises.
I stressed over it but, in the end didn't feel the need.
They do sell them there in shop if you change your mind and really want to buy a pair.

Just went Oct. 5&6.....agree with the rest here.....not necessary.
Just wear flat soles and the thinner the better. I wore my ECCOs.

I have been to several driving schools (including the Bondurant school when they did teach heel-toe downshifting), and have worn driving shoes and tennis shoes... Both were fine as long as you do not have thick leather soles that more easily slip off the pedals.
I bought Simpson driving shoes a long time ago...you can see here what the soles look like, and how the upper part is soft flexible leather. Note, they do have a more rounded heel and thin rubber soles.

Melting Slicks
I took 2 pairs of Pilotis 3 years ago but Road & Track had a short blurb a while back on what can be substituted for driving shoes and even Chuck Taylors were mentioned. Puma makes some neat alternatives. Just make sure the shoes are not too wide that they get in the way.

as many have stated, thin soled shoes, the more narrow the better. racing shoes are not necessary, but if you have some, they'll work great for pedal feel. however, walking in them all day will hurt
i wear puma shoes when i drive. back in the day I used stan smith line of shoes from Adidas...but they are hard to find. you don't want a shoe with a bunch of the flexible "teeth" style/type...they can get in the way, hang up or flex too much...
hope this helps and thanks for coming out! you'll have a blast

I just left there last night. I wore smooth sole tennis shoes and they were fine.

I have a pair of Sparco 77's that I bought for Spring Mountain (went in March) - about $75 from Amazon. They are nice, thin soled driving shoes, which I still use if I take the C7 out for some bonding time.
I didn't/don't have anything in footwear close to that design (narrow + thin sole), but since most if us drive with regular tennis, running or cross-trainer footwear, that would work too.

Drifting
Puma drift cats can be had for a good price and work well. I use them for autocross and when I went to spring mountain the first time. I'll use them there again in the spring. Good feel and control. The heel stays planted too which is nice.
