So not that impressed with the current 'matte' (aka 'flat') paint.

I doubt it because caddy does their own thing. They almost want to be their own company and do things their way. I think with these new Caddys ATS V and CTS V are high level trim and sports packages.

Not only is matte fugly to me it also looks like a pain
Guidelines
•
Hand-wash only; commercial car wash facilities use products and processes that can damage the matte finish.
•
Refrain from using wax, detail spray or any products made for normal paint.
•
Products that possess any abrasive qualities - such as polishes, glazes or rubbing compounds - should not be used.
•
Refrain from using mechanical cleaners or polishers.
•
Avoid rubbing the finish vigorously; this will burnish the finish, creating bright spots and an uneven appearance.

Matte finishes set off body lines and make them more visible. A gloss paint reflects everything around it...almost like a natural camouflage. It doesn't allow you to SEE the car, you see the trees, cars next to it, the ground, etc. Matte's and satins don't allow that, so your eyes absorb more of the body shape.
I've wrapped a bunch of cars, and mattes absolutely SET OFF a nice car. I have matte painted several cars, and frankly, I prefer wrap all day everyday. The wrap is PERFECT because it's printed/cast. Fact is, things happen, scratches, etc...and a matte paint job isn't something you can buff. Wrap...you just heat it and scratches disappear....the sun basically keeps it scratch free.

Actually it turns out to be $2k since you have to get it as a package, and other options in the package are $8k

It would be nice if GM offered a couple of more exotic colors only exclusive (well in this case Cadillac as well) to the Corvette.

I really doubt this will be offered on the C7 because the current paint shop limits how many colors they can run and I don't see them adding what I believe would be a very low volume color on the C7. Maybe the new paint shop will allow more colors.

I saw a cool looking matte black car a few weeks ago AND it had those cool black wheels everyone here loves.
It was a 1990 something trailblazer with what looked like a Rustolean paint job that included those cool black wheels. It must have taken 10 spray cans to deliver this custom paint job... probably $80.00 worth. A little bondo in the holes would have probably have helped though.

LOl... so true!!! Sadly, there's folks on this forum that have no idea who Earl Scheib is? Black wheels and primer finish... reminds me of growing up with no $$$ and lots of dreams.

Yes I remember and had a 61 Ford painted by them. However, I've been to several car shows and have seen Mercedes, BMW's & Audis with a matte finish paint jobs.
One of the owners said he paid over $ 3,000.00 for it and he said it was the worst decision he ever made. It gets fingerprints showing up on it and is much harder to keep clean than any car he ever owned. And yes, like black wheels, another dumb fad. But hey, I suppose if people buy cars because of it then the car companies will push it.
