Abnormal amount of windshield scratches
I am very curious if others on this forum have come across an abnormal amount of front windshield scratches. I have a 2014 Z51 with HUD (October 2013 build) and must have 15 -20 scratches in the windshield that have slowly accumulated over the last 2 years. These scratches are very random and have no pattern or obvious source as to where they came from (not wipers etc...).
Having owned more than a dozen cars before, this windshield seems to be far the most problematic one that I have ever owned. It certainly appears like a material / design flaw. I was wondering if they are still using the same vendor for glass on newer models or if the HUD glass makes the windshield more prone to scratches.
Many thanks in advance for you contributions and advice.

Safety Car
I have some small chips and my car is 1 yr old. It appears the front windshield glass in the C-7 is softer than the C-6. Don't know what we can do about it except stay away from the trucks on the interstate.

Sorry you're having the issue. Are you sure they're actually scratches etched into the glass, or could it be other 'residue' left behind by wiper blades, material on the windshield that was smeared by wiper blades across the windshield, etc.? I've had this happen before. I tried two steps:
First, I used lacquer thinner on a cloth (be careful not to get this on your painted surfaces - won't do much of anything if you wipe it off quickly, but don't take the chance) and rubbed some of the 'scratch' areas with the dampened cloth. In my situation, this got rid of some of the residue, but only about 20% of it or so.
Second: I used polishing compound and my orbital and 'buffed' the windshield. This did the trick in my case.
Not sure this will work in your case, but it did for me. Good luck!

Have been many prior posts on this. I have 2015 Z06 had 1 week after I noticed a small pit in glass right in driver view. To small to fix....I look at it every time I'm in car. Very frustrated.
I'm going to wait for more...then replace with new!!! It seems like a trend with the OEM glass!

No scratches that I've noticed yet, but the HUD windshield glass may be more prone to scratching than standard.
With this new car, I'm exploring and learning about a whole 'nuther world of car detailing.
I'm trying to avoid any owner/installed scratches anywhere by using the three bucket system (wash/rinse/wheels only buckets) with grit guards in each for hand washing and dry using compressed air followed by a dedicated waffle weave towel.

Do you ever use gas station sponge/squeegees to clean your windshield?
All it takes is one that had some grit from someone washing their 4x4 stuck in it and you can wreck a windshield in one shot. Happened to me on one of my pickups a couple years ago, wrecked the windshield in 2 minutes
