Default ? about Dynamat Extreme

I pulled up carpet and applied Dynamat Extreme to the area behind the seats.

Question: Does Dynamat Extreme need to be attached to work? I have a large piece of Dynamat Extreme and I am thinking of trimming it to fit in the cargo area and then place my cargo may over it. I will trim it so none of the Dynamat is exposed Will it work?

Thank in advance for you "sound advice"......

I think it will certainly help, maybe not quite as well if it were adhered.

I installed the Rattle Trap Extreme and made sure it was bonded to the rear cargo material Plastic or composite), rather than just laying it down over it.

By adhering the material to the rear cargo panel, the material will absorb the sound and any vibration.

Dam man love your avatar.. To the OP here it has has the rubber black backing on it yes it has to be rolled on & stick to the floor like 100% gluded down like to work. But like it also says you do not have to have 100% of the flooring coved to get it to work over not having nothing on the floor panels..

In door panel if you put like a strip across the door, then go up & put a new strip about 6 inchs about that all the way up the door & panels. The CO says that will work as good as if you put the full door with it as far as absorbing sound.

Plus this stuff is heavy ..

It will do little if anything. Dynamat is a damping material (constrained layer damping) intended to be adhered to panels to reduce the vibration. This in most cases reduces the panel's radiation of acoustic energy into the cabin. It's more effective at higher frequencies than lower frequencies. But this material does add mass to the panels and can cause new/different problems at lower frequencies in some cases.

A barrier material is what you'd use as a freestanding layer under your carpet. And proper acoustic barrier materials don't use a "Dynamat" layer typically.

But try it. Can't hurt.

I put it all over the back of mine and I could not tell any difference at all.
For me that was a waste of time and money.
