Removed center console...found this??
SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had to loosen the Center Console to get at a screw that holds the passenger side hand hold piece with tabs into the glove box.
Changing out the surround above the glove box to Spice Red from the Black interior.
Found this piece laying in the front part of the console that has the white insulation/protective layer for the center piece of the console, ie the cups and lighter section.
Problem, I did not see this piece when I was raising the console to get to the screw and now I am lost as to where it goes.
Looked and looked and looked but I see nothing it appears to fit.....
Anyone work on their console and see this piece that knows?
HELP!!! gotta get my car together..

That looks like something that used to be called a marital aid back in the puritan past!
Best bet it was something that just fell in the console and they covered it over!

It could be from the Hand Hold area as I did remove most of those pieces.
Any pics of that area?
After removing the piece with the tabs that fits into the left side of the glove box is when I noticed this "thing" in the console.

I think it is a "spacer" that fits between the inner passenger side hand hold structure and the piece I took off on the passenger side that is a trim molding which fits into the left side of the glove box.
I outer part on one side has a curve (see the curve that is centered on the 25 cent side) that fits over a protruding screw in the structure. Maybe just to provide a cushion when one grabs the hand hold area so it doesn't cave in as much. ??
I have had the console off before and don't remember this piece so it must have something to do with the hand hold section. I will focus on that.

Here are the passenger handle parts. I don't see an attachment place for your part, nor it is shown.

I didn't see anything like that when I took mine apart. I found a big rubber band holding the clutch shaft up, but I found out that's normal.

It is likely part of the hand hold molding that fits over that part shown as it is may be a spacer between the two parts.
This is an A8 btw.

The part looks too small to fit a hand through (barely bigger than 2 quarters) unless you're suggesting it fits elsewhere in the handle.

Yes, it fits between the pass. trim piece and the hand hold structure...not in the opening.
Here is the piece, don't see the spacer.

Did not remove the boot or shift ****...don't know where it would go. Did lift and move the boot around to move the console enough to get the hand hold screw out.

I have looked a long time trying to discover where it might fit and especially those holes...nothing that I have tried fits...and don't see anywhere that it looks to fit.
Very puzzling! I'll be putting it back together Monday and may have to leave it out and see what happens.
