I hate Dexos
After years of GM recommending only Mobil ! for use in Corvettes and badging the engine compartment accordingly- "Use only Mobil 1", the all powerful C7 is born; and with it an inferior blended oil is substituted. Really? I for one don't buy it and I suspect most others don't either. When I got my '14 home I did an oil change to Mobil 1 and I have had two oil changes done at dealership with of course Mobil 1 with some issue- one service advisor even raised the hood to show me the Dexos on the filler cap. I suggested he pay attention to the words coming out of my mouth, that I don't want your blended oil. I can't wait to a replacement oil fill cap is available so I can remove the last vestiges of Dexos from my car! I hate Dexos

You didn't need to replace the factory oil. ALL Corvettes leave Bowling Green with Mobil 1 as the factory fill. And Mobil 1 is the official, approved fill for oil changes and what GM reimburses the dealers for. See:

It's unfortunate that so many dealers are uneducated as to what they're supposed to do.
BTW, Dexos isn't an oil, it's a spec that many oils, including Mobil 1, meet. You don't say if you have a dry sump or wet sump motor, but if it's a dry sump Mobil 1 caps are available.

There is a Mobil1 cap available for dry sump cars. I got mine on RockAuto for $13 shipped.
Although it led to quite a bit of confusion on the C7 initially, Dexos is a good thing for consumers as it guarantees a certain quality of oil since approved oils are at least a semi-syn and many are full-synthetic. It costs a little more for "regular" cars, but with it comes even longer extended oil drain intervals.

Our Corvette Tech surprised me with a Mobil 1 oil cap at my last Mobil 1 ONLY oil change. Don't really know why GM put in the 'dexos' caps, but yes, Mobil 1 FULL SYNTHETIC is 'dexos' approved.

Need to study up on oil, Tex. Things change, and sometimes they can change in just a year. It did.

I hate dexos oil too. And if your dealer puts that low quality blended syn in your LT1 it will certainly blow up before you get to the dealer driveway. If dexos was a person I'd like totally for sure not talk to them. I'm over 100% serious.

Big rant over nothing, amazing how people react due to a lack of knowledge.

The only thing worse is when the dealer puts in "Mobile One", messes with my "carbon fiber breaks", or gets a grease stain on my "D bottom" steering wheel.
There are some very unique terms used in this forum.
All kidding aside and apologies to those that I may have offended, the passion here is amazing.

This goofy oil stuff is actually illegal in 21 states. They call it driving while DEXOS'd. It's dangerous because at any moment you might experience failure from the lack of really good oil. Might cause traffic jams and even accidents. This could jeopardize small children, puppies, and even baby Jesus.

Part of the reason Mobil lost their case was API (American Petroleum Institute) said testing is better than how the product is made in defining how it performs (IMO, because they had tests!) However GM developed their own tests and like API charge the oil manufactures to put "meets dexos" on their product! In fact for a short time Mobil refused to pay GM and did not put dexos on their products - they do now!
All that said, dexos is a test specification. There are 100+ companies that are “approved” to put in on their product. Some whose names I never heard of! They are all probably fine and there is no oil available in the US that is made mostly with a PAO base as in the past! However I still use Mobil 1 but it’s probably no better than some other oils.
Can’t blame the dealers for buying whatever the cheapest dexos approved oil they can get for their 55 gallon drums! That is what most use in the oil change bays and it’s approved by GM. Some dealers probably know that GM says use Mobil 1 in Vette’s but would rather use their 55 gallon drum pumped oil as they use for all other cars! For those dealers doubt an oil fill cap saying "Mobil 1" makes any difference! But for some Vette owners may make them "feel better!" I'm sure they pay significantly more for quarts of Mobil 1! In fact even Walmart who sells 5 quart jugs of Mobil 1 for ~$5/quart gets ~$8 for single quarts!
FWIW

Just curious, is the Corvette the only GM car that is supposed to get Mobil 1 oil at the dealer? What about the V model Cadillacs?

Ok, I hate ISO 9000/9001 etc... another scam that is somehow supposed to make whatever it is they are peddling, good....
What i really hate is GM engineering not specifically putting on a "Mobil 1 Only" cap on the Corvette, one simple label and all problems are solved!
