2015 C7 Z51,A8 with 1K miles. After todays joy ride pulled into home development. Children playing so I'm going slow. Radio off and windows are down. Noticed engine clatter that sounded a lot like a 70's Chevy solid lifter noise. After 10min. checked engine oil and it was 2/3 qt low but well within dip stick marks. Does the C7 motor have solid lifters? Is engine clatter noise normal at low RPM's? Thanks for your comments.
Don't know if the clatter is related to outside temperature. Temps are moderate so I don't think so. I usually have radio on and windows closed so I have not noticed noise. Car runs great and I think the noise is likely normal. 460 HP is not going to sound like a Volt. Nice sunny day here in Raleigh NC temp was low 60.
More than likely it's the direct injection fuel pump. There are a lot of posts discussing the situation, just do a search.
That's my understanding, though not the pump, but the actual injectors which - I could be wrong here - exist *outside* of the engine, right on top, and inject the fuel directly into the combustion chamber at 2000-3000 psi.
I would expect 8 injectors shooting fuel at up to 3000psi to make some noise.

The C7 has roller hydulic liters that should make no noise. It's the first Vette with direct injection. The injectors squirt fuel directly in the cylinder, similar to a diesel. That takes a 2000+ psi injector pump. The pump and injectors make noise. They are located under the intake manifold and their is noise insulation over that area. Although some have said their car does have a sound, I don't notice any significant clicking sound.
My '14 C7 had something in the valvetrain that made a lot of noise at times. Lifter, rocker, whatever. At 2-3000rpm after some spirited driving it would clatter pretty bad. No it wasnt a DI/mechanical fuel pump noise, it was valvetrain.
It would come and go at idle as well. It didnt missfire or get really bad and in 10K miles it never changed much. Being around LS-type engines since 1997 its not out of the ordinary to have some valvetrain noise so I just shrugged it off. I would say my old '12 GS LS3 was noisier, at a McDonalds drivethrough it sounded like a V8 with misadjusted solid lifters.
Since my car is all torn up now I asked them to check into that bell housing TSB it has to do with some bracket being bad and causing a clacking noise. Dealer said they would replace it under the TSB since it's all apart anyway. Check it out.
A rattle noise at the engine bell housing may be heard on some 2014-2015 Corvettes built with the 6.2L engine (RPO LT1) and an automatic transmission...

Thanks guys, I am satisfied that the clatter like noise is from the injectors. After another short drive to warm the engine I opened the hood and could more clearly hear that the noise is coming from the center top area of the motor. Injectors doing their thing. Thank you all for your comments. Drive safe!

Probably the case. However if you are near another C7 compare. If yours is signicantly louder, might consider bringing it to a competent dealer who has another C7 in stock they are willing to park side by side with yours. Otherwise you'll probably get the usual, "It's Normal" answer!
A forum poster with loud ticking posted that their dealer removed the manifold and found the insulation over the pump and injectors crumpled and not fitting properly. It was replaced.
As I said in a previous post, even with my 2 year old C7 hood open I do not hear significant ticking. However at 73 my high frequency hearing is not great! Although despite my wife's accusations about me not hearing her, a recent hearing test said my hearing comprehension was fine. In that case it is a "selective hearing problem!"
I'm not sure I understand why the injectors would be louder when the weather and engine are cold than in warmer weather. But mine definitely has a lot more clatter when cold than when warmed up, or than it did in the summer.
I've got to get it up to the dealer to check out, I think.
