Default GM - Unexpected C7 "Owner Notice" Letter

FYI....Received this advice letter from GM (Canada) yesterday. Thought it was going to be a recall until I opened the envelope and read the text.

Steve, I disagree. It does NOT have to be that way. There is no reason to ridicule.

It's an attitude that causes people like TyBoo to say what he said above.

If people would simply answer a member's question AND point out what page their answer is on in the Owner's Manual, you've answered the question and indirectly pointed out the that member that their answer IS in the Owner's Manual.

People, it's all "attitude and approach" with no ridicule.

I think this is because many people don't read the owners manual, which has this all spelled out.

I'm assuming this is in response to the incident last summer where a guy and his dog died in his C6 because the battery was dead and he didn't know how to get out. Cant remember where but it was in the news and a big topic on the forum at the time.

Wonder if that was initiated because of this or a similar incident.

I have come to the realization that Corvette owners are mean people. There are many things that can cause a 72 year old man to be unable to summon rational thought; being stupid is pretty far down the list.

And those who feel the need to ridicule someone for not finding the answer to a question in the owners manual make me very hesitant to even ask a question on this forum.

I assume that's at least in part directed at my reply. First, the incident in question with the old guy and his dog has been beaten to death on this forum and others. There is zero evidence or proof that it happened because he didn't know how to get out of his car with a dead battery. Second, ratman's post above says it's an assumption that this letter is related to that incident. There is nothing in the letter to back that up.

Third, and most importantly, there is some very critical safety info in any owner's manual. How to get out of a car with electric door locks is one, but it's not the only one. If an owner is not willing to even open the Owner's Manual, but rather post a question on a forum (which is simply the lazy way out) he/she is asking for ridicule.

Since the letter apparently was only sent to Canadian owners I'll make an assumption that it was done at the direction of some Canadian government agency, but at the cost of GM, to notify lazy owners of something they should already know about.

YMMV.

My comment was an observation that is based on the fact that GM and many other manufacturers realize that most people do not read the operators manual for anything that they purchase.
Because of that and the importance of this safety information, it was better to send out a special letter as an extra step for those customers -safety redundancy.

I don't find it terribly difficult to be helpful. If you don't know or don't care to share your knowledge, why bother posting.

I've read the manual, I'm a pretty sharp guy, but there are some instances where I've read something five times and it doesn't click. Then I've read it here, and it's explained maybe a little differently and the light bulb goes off. I don't think that's uncommon or a sign of stupidity. I think being a jackass is though.

"If you don't know or don't care to share your knowledge, why bother posting." To me this is right on, and might i change it a little by adding one significant word, so that it reads like this

If you don't know or don't care to share your knowledge with courtesy, why bother posting?

Lawyers likely advised GM Canada to send this out. Surprised all C7 owners didn't get it.

I couldn't agree more! I've been ranting about this for over 5 years. Every day that goes by, people just get lazier and lazier.

READ THE MANUAL!!! You just might learn something.

Merry Christmas.

I am 71 years old and have read the manual on my 2014 AND 2015 and still refer back to the book. Some of the people on this forum need to get a life. Maybe one day some of the same people who complain will get older and have the same problem remembering non essential BS.

I write technical manuals and textbooks for engineers, and I can tell you that reading content is rare for most publications like an owner's manual. A shame, but true.

Ok, the dog doesn't know how to open a door but the guy ? he could have popped the top if need be... that is just too strange... This feature has been there since 2005 C6. If that's the case, they would have to give people an educational presentation with a written test at the end... and if you fail, you don't get the car... or at least until you pass!
