Default $500 light bulb?!?!?!?

Hi Forum

Has anyone had to replace the headlamp bulb? Mine is out. The LED strips are good, but the round eye bulb is out. I took it to the Dealer and they are quoting $200 for the bumper removal, $280 for the bulb, plus tax....

Really Chevy? WTF No access panel.... great design

if anyone has had the experience and found a reasonable solution, please chime in!

Corvette tax. That is why so many people do their own work.

Typical for HID headlamps, Corvette or otherwise. It should be covered under your 3/36 bumper-to-bumper warranty though.

Here's a 6k bulb. It's not the same color, but it's only $55. The tricky part is getting to it. It does require removing the front fascia.

Call up a diff chev dealer for real, some don't know their azz from a hole in the ground.. But 100% you have to take the front bumper off the car. Its not that bad at all just look at how the top clips come out you have to lift up & also pull out at the same time. If you break one of them it is at the top your top of the bumper will stick up on that side and not set even with the fender. Robert

Why many of us do our own work on the Corvettes. If you have any mechanical aptitude at all, do the fix yourself. Lots of folks here to help.

Same with my 2009 Malibu, absolutely silly.... i can almost understand it in a Corvette since everything is tight and aero and lightness have priority... you should see the procedure to change the third brake light in the stupid Malibu as well.... REMOVE COMPLETE REAR interior... not joking ! Absolutely silly to the point i will only buy another GM car if i can perform a simple light bulb replacement!

It is becoming more and more common on many manufacture's vehicles that for the vast majority of people, a headlight bulb will require a trip to the dealer... I have that same year Malibu sitting in my yard and I do agree that some things don't make a lot of sense about it.

It is now common with many manufactures for you to have to remove the front bumper to change your headlight bulb. If your headlight LED's for some unknown reason stop working, you will have to replace the entire light for $$$$$$$$.

$280 is probably the headlight assembly not just the light.

Unfortunately that typical of many late model autos. On my Jeep the bumper & grill need to be removed to replace the side marker bulbs.

As an aside, I was at Autozone asking about replacing the battery in my Jeep one thing lead to another and he told me in two Lexus models the passenger seat has to be complete removed from the car & the carpet lifted in order to get to the battery, WTF?

One word of caution, the HID lights use high voltage (about 23,000 V) blasters. I would disconnect the battery first. And you do not have to take off the front bumper completely. Ask Jerry. Good luck.

I doubt it if the C6's assembly is any indicator @ almost 2 grand!

Not even close. $280 is the MSRP for the HID Bulb: 13503432 HID BULB $280. The lens and housing without HID bulb, ballast, etc. is MSRP $995.

$280 for a light bulb at your Chevy dealer, and people bitch about the "high" price of owning a German car. LOL

At least on my C6, I can access the bulbs through a panel in the wheel opening.

So a single example totally negates the generalized statement. LOL.

Don't understand why they did away with the access panel on the C7. I used the panel to change out my C6 bulbs. Definitely not as convenient on the C7. Still, I'd much rather own my C7 than my C6 (which I sold).

My thought on this is that if I had to remove the front fascia to replace a headlamp bulb, I'd be doing a grill replacement while the fascia was off.

Quick Reply: $500 light bulb?!?!?!?
