Xpel Stealth Wrapped C7 Stingray!
Hello Corvette family! I've always used the forums to gather useful information for my car builds. I figured this time I'd share my latest C7 modification!
I had my car wrapped before in the usual vinyl. I must admit, the satin white looked amazing. Buuuut... After 2-3 months of normal city driving, I began to notice rock chips that damaged the wrap and causing the original black paint to show. I got sick of going back to the shop to have the guys re-wrap the entire front end so I looked for an alternative.
Curtis, owner of Clarity Auto Detail told me about the product XPEL. I knew they were well respected for their clear bra paint protection films but I didn't know they now offer a new "Stealth Film". This film has the same paint protection and durability as the clear bra but comes in a satin finish. Basically, it goes over your factory paint and turns it to a matte/satin appearance. As a plus, you also get a 10 year warranty! The only con is you don't get to choose a wild creative color.
The job cost me nearly 6k. Although, price depends on the vehicle and labor. Turnaround time was about a week. We also wrapped all the Aero components in XPEL clear to give the vehicle a matte with gloss accents appearance. If you're looking for a flawless install and amazing customer service, I highly recommend Clarity Auto Detail! Ive got a handful of mods so more post to come. Enjoy!

Thank you for sharing. I have a full paintjob of satin (black) finish on my dually. I would not mind having such on my torch red Corvette.
How did they instruct you to take care of it? Does it have a different feel to it, or does it feel the same as the gloss vinyl?
Take a look at http://www.drbeasleys.com/ for matte/satin finish products. I use them exclusively on my truck and HD with satin/matte finishes.

I like the look but would guess that you will be visiting the shop that applied the film product, using the warranty. I may be wrong. Surely over a period of time, I would think the finish will sustain some damage.
Keep us posted. I sincerely hope that the product meets your expectations. I can see using the product in certain strategic areas of the car, but not the entire body.
The question would be, can it hold up better than the actual paint surface itself?
Your C7 looks awesome, and thanks for being a test vehicle. This will be interesting to follow, and hopefully, you will keep the CF forum up-to-date on the quality and durability of the product.
If yours holds up to quality standards you may set the bar for others attempting to do the same modification. This will be a test of time.

Have you ever experienced the Xpel film?
I took a wire brush to the hood....all scratched up.
I poured a warm-hot cut of water over the hood and it self healed.
YouTube it...it's pretty amazing.

XPEL ULTIMATE (clear) and STEALTH (satin-finish) are both warrantied for 10 years.
We recommend using caution if you use other products, as it may give an uneven gloss/satin if the finish in the product is too glossy.
Basically, as far as caring for it, it's nothing like caring for a satin-finish paint job.

I'd think cops would PLANT drugs IN your car so they can impound it - use it as a seized vehicle and slap sirens on it and terrorize all the bad people in the city.
Seriously - looks like it came out of a batman movie. It's now my screen saver.
