Boost! Hellion Turbo Kit vs PC, ECS, A&A?
I'm looking to add some boost to my build! I've held off due to the stock fuel pump concerns with other kits needing meth support, but I've been told that running a turbo could eliminate the risk of the stock fuel pump failure and safely get up to 600-1k WHP without complicating the build. I ran across the new "Hellion Turbo Kit" for the C7 and wanted to know if anyone is running the kit or has any experience with the product on C7's and what kind of power is it really putting down in comparison to the ProCharger, ECS, and A&A kits?

Which means of forced induction you chose will not change the fuel demands needed. All of your options would run out of fuel at the same point.

If the car is demanding more fuel to create hp then it does not matter what how you are supplying to air to the motor.
No matter what system you choose you are going to run out of fuel around 850 rwhp or less. With that said you are also looking at a built bottom end, etc. A good centri setup is going to cost less than a turbo setup.

Hey thanks for chiming in Doug! My guys here in Houston highly recommend the ECS kit for the C7 so it's definitely on my list. Being a true car guy, I understand you have to first identity what level of performance you're looking for out of your vehicle. I currently daily drive my car after my job cut the demo program for management, and I don't mind cause I enjoy my car. I want more performance such as the boost, heads/cam but I can admit I'm the worst at keeping up with the required maintenance such as the supercharger oil or the Alky meth fluid recommend if exceeding 600 whp. I had a 800 whp ZL1 Camaro build before my Vette and it was awesome but I think it's the daily drivability that I want to maintain. First sports car I didn't really intend to track. Other than your usual 40-60 roll on the way home!

In early 14 I put on a ECS 1500 kit with a single nozzle meth kit. I made around 600rwhp at 8 psi. towards the end of 14 I did a cam, headers, 416 stroker motor and removed the restrictor and was pushing around 840rwhp. We ran out of fuel at that point.
I then stepped up to the ECS2200, built a custom secondary fuel system and upped the boost to around 22psi. The car made over 1100 rwhp on a mustang dyno in the middle of a FL summer day.
More mods are going in the next few weeks (bigger blower, heads, billet intake, E85, 2nd set of injectors) and we should be high 1300 close to 1400 rwhp.
The nice thing about a centri setup is that on normal driving you will not even get into boost, so it doesn't affect daily driving. The skies the limit... just depending on how far you want to go and the $$ you want to spend.

That's awesome! And by "Centri Setup" you're referring to the non-turbo systems?

I understand not wanting to add meth every few fill up's, but it's really not that bad IMO, it's also fairly inexpensive to buy.
Thanks for your interest in our products, you clearly have very smart friends.

That's an awesome build, how do you plan to control the second set of injectors?

Hellion has been doing twin turbo kits for Mustangs for a while. The Mustangs have been well received and I wouldn't be surprised to read good reviews for the Corvette kit. If I had a base Corvette and wanted to go forced induction, I would go turbo.

A centrifugal blower has characteristics of a turbo setup. It will start making boost around 2500 rpm. A top mount blower will start making boost at all RPM. On a daily driver the nice thing about a centri setup for normal everyday driving, you will never get into boost, which will help with fuel economy. On a top mount you are always in boost. Also, these cars come with a lot of torque, a top mount blower you will spin you tires easier with the stock tires. A centri will also rev higher than a top mount blower will but will not have low RPM power. For street cars I, as many believe a centri is a better setup, where a top mounted blower is better for drag racing on a track, as long as you have adequate traction. Traction is definitely more of an issue with a top blower since they come on so early and hit so hard. Not saying that a centri doesn't but it comes on more linear and at around 2500 rpm.
I drove a friends Mustang with a Whipple Roots blower and it was no fun to trive at all, it hit way to hard down low every time you stepped on the gas just a little bit the car got squirrely. I drove it around the block and gave it back to him.
As far as meth goes.... I was worried about the same thing before I got mine installed. All you have to do is top the tank off every few fillups, just like adding windshield fluid. Its not just for HP, its also more importantly a safety measure.

Centrifugal supercharger rather than a PD or Roots (top mount) blower.

I've done the centri setup before and it was great! Can't decide to boost the base C7 or go with the Z06 yet. Plenty of great choices when it comes to adding power to the C7. I looked on Hellion's site but saw nothing on the Corvette yet, curious where this will be priced at.

That looks like it will melt the hood in that location :-)

I'm going to purchase a c7z in April and I will probably do a few kids, pulley swap, tune, bolt ons, but eventually I will end up with a F1X procharger on it. I'm in Houston as well.

I have a 2200 YSI on mine now and I'm making just under 1200rwhp. I have a F1X that was supposed to be going on along with heads and a LME billet intake manifold/ throttle body but I don't think I'll have time to be ready for the 1/2 mile event next week. With the F1X I should be between 1300 - 1400 rwhp.
