Split in tire
While checking my tires, I noticed a split on the inside tread of my driver's front tire (See photos). I have never seen anything like this before. Thoughts...
EDIT: Tires have a little over 11,000 miles.

Looks like some separation going on; I'd be planning a trip to the dealer real soon for an adjustment. How many miles are we looking at? Looks like you are down around the 50% of tread life.....

Looks like a warranty issue to me.
Can't help but wonder if it's related to the skipping of the tires during sharp turns?
I first thought was maybe related to using the tires when it's to cold, but I noticed your in L A. I don't think it gets that cold in your location, does it?
No matter what the cause, still a warranty issue.

Interesting.....please post what the dealer comes back with....now I need to take a close look at my tires (18K miles). Just a shot in the dark here....been on the track/Auto-X, could you have over heated the tires?
Can't see how slow turn skip would cause this issue...

You will likely be dealing with Michelin not GM. I don't think tires are covered by the GM warranty.

had trouble with a mich. Tire last year on my audi ....they were very good and replace 4 tires and a very fair price ...the dealer has nothing to do with it .... Get the phone # from a dealer ...call and speak with mich .....the dealer will be asked for input also ...they were great to me ..good luck ..

Car has never been tracked. No modifications to car, except rims were swapped out from painted to chrome.

Moved the car today and got a better look at the tire (see photos). I would be surprised if I did not have to replace the tire. Definitely looks like a tire defect issue and I don't see how anyone could honestly say I caused the issue.
I will keep everyone updated.

That tire sure doesn't look good. Hope the dealer/Michelin comes through for you - let us know.

I'd say this is the result of the non-Ackerman steering design. The forces developed between the edges of the tires and a very grippy surface (like broom-swept finish on concrete) are going to be very high before the tire lets go and skips, much higher than on a smoother surface.

Will the tire skip, jump, hop cause more wear on the inside rib of the front tire. My fronts are an even 8/32 all across except for the inside rib which measures 7/32. Is this cause for alignment or is this normal wear for a NON-Ackerman front end.

My guess is it is the way the car was aligned at the factory. When I had my C-6, the inside rib wore out faster than the rest of the tire. It was my understanding it is the aggressive way the factory aligned the car. I'm obviously not a tire or alignment expert. It's just what I have heard.
