C7 prices possibly falling...
Keeping it short - there was a 2014 C7 Yellow Z51 2LT Auto with 9k miles at auction the other day that ended up selling for 42K. I wish I would of pulled the trigger, but I was a bit busy and didn't have the time to make a bid. Definitely shooting myself in the foot now.
Anyone here seeing these cars that low anywhere? I preferably want a 15/16 model for the new auto, but at that price would be more than happy to go '14.
Just curious if anyone else is seeing this. I feel that prices are going to finally level out toward the end of this year. Finally...

It wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if the prices of the pre owned would drop a bit more as I am actively looking. I have seen a few in the southeast (Verts) that seem to indicate the prices are leveling a bit.
BTW, I'm sure you sick that you missed that Z51.

one 3.5 year old model year sports car (tire, body, title condition unknown) sold at auction in the middle of winter for $42k + fees.
will still be on a dealer lot for $49k

Of course they're dropping. They're dropping on every used car every day. These aren't classics for 25 more years or so.

the good thing where I live is that the market isn't flooded with C7's, there aren't too many used ones on the market privately, mostly new '15 and '16s being sold at dealerships. Hopefully the trend will continue until I'm ready to sell mine in a couple of years.

It's all about supply and demand with some seasonal adjustments in some regions.

After you add the buyers fees (6 to 10%) depending on the venue, I would have to say that $42K was all it was worth. The average 2014 coupe is going in the low to mid $40's here. What's the big deal???

In Canada the used market prices for the C7 are holding strong. Probably because of the lower number here. That's why I'm deciding to purchase new.

yes,c7 prices are falling because that's what Corvette prices do as the years go on. It's no diferent then any other Corvette generation. They fall until they level off after 3 years or so.14's on the lot for anywhere from 49 something with 22k miles to mid 50's + for z51's. Mine will be on a lot in Virginia in a week or so for probably 51ish.3LT COUPE LOADED. It's the nature of the beast. We're going into Corvette season too shortly so those prices may start to inch up until mid July..

On dollar terms....
1 US Dollar = Canadian Dollar 1.09338 on 1/15/2014
1 US Dollar = Canadian Dollars 1.3854 on 1/1/2016
or
CDN was worth .923 Cents US on 1/1/2014 vs the USD
CDN was worth .614 Cents US on 1/1/2016 vs the USD
Comparing the value of the CDN on 1/1/2014 to 1/1/2016 the CDN Dollar lost over 30% in value against the USD during that time period.
Today a $70,000 Corvette in Canadian dollars would cost $97,300 USD.
You lost money C7Jake, and a lot of it.
The CDN dollar has been in a massive decline vs the USD in value since 1/1/2014. Thus, Canadian's have lost a huge amount of buying power vs the USD. The last time there was parity on CDN vs USD was back on Sept 22nd, 2007. It's been all downhill since then for the Canucks.

2014 + 2015 + half of 2016 = 2.5 years

Your logic is flawed...cost me $7k CND to upgrade to a '16 C7. Thousands of CND vehicles are being pumped into US...everybody wins. 4 of my vehicles have gone stateside in the last 6 months. Flipped a '15 F150 last week for this '16 & pocketed cash.

Further to Jake's comment above, we don't purchase vehicles in US dollars. A C7 is priced the same now in Canada as it was when our dollar was near parity. Although in time rules of economics will see a rise in prices if the dollar (and oil prices) don't adjust back.
In fact a base C7 is about $44,000 USD in Canada.
This is the inverse of what we saw here over the years when Canadian were shipping cars up North due to our stronger dollar and cheaper prices stateside.

Is it really a surprise that prices on used Chevrolets are dropping?

Sure like to see you post your Bill of Sale for the 2014 Corvette C7 showing all true costs and the Bill of Sale for the 2016 Corvette showing all true costs and comparing prices and bottom lines.
There always a way to spin a deal.
If anyone could trade or sell their 2014 C7 and buy a new Corvette 2016 for a $7,000 difference many would be doing it.
