You'll likely not have to make this choice. The Z51 option will be part of the GS and no longer available as a separate option on the base stingray as it is now. That's my guess.

My wife has a C7 Z51 convertible. Believe me that is plenty of car for the street.

I have a C6 ZO6 and I love it but it is kind of difficult to get that 505HP to the street even on Michelin PS2's.

I think the average driver would be just as fast in my wife's automatic Z51 as they would in my manuial C6 ZO6.

Being an old hot rodder and road racer I tend to buy cars that are overboard for the daily commute but I'm fascinated by all the go fast/stop fast goodies available on the Corvette.

For me the choice would be between the ZO6 and the GS, not the GS and the Z51. That said, I would op for the GS. I'm an old school big cubic inch naturally aspirated guy. I would have a C7 ZO6 by now if it wasn't supercharged. The GS fills the gap nicely and leaves a few dollars on the table for go fast mods.

Though I know this can change anytime, what Tadge said to road and track in an interview was that the Z51 option would not be replaced and would still be available separately.

@roadbike56
Tadge said around 8k over base, he didn't say over base+Z51 or over Z51.

To each their own. Since adding Z06 front splitter, Z06 style side skirts and Z06 front grill w/camera's.....I spent a lot less than $5k for a Z06 look. And I owned a 2013 wide body Grand Sport!!

Yep, the GS really needs more power, 550 naturally would be perfect.

I'm hoping the C7 GS drives the prices of the C7 Z51 cars down. I might replace my C6Z with a C7 then.

You are paying for the look and you are not going to get it in the Z51 Stingray.

Totally agree. Had a C6Z. NA for me as well due to weight, complexity, heat, etc. of supercharging. Get a GS, send it to Katech, give them $9K, and you will have what the Z06 should have been for the same or less costs than a C7Z. Each to his own. It is great to have choices.

If they keep the Z51 as a model in 2017, then the used Z51s might decrease in value a little. All things being equal, a used Z51 will still be a bit more than a base. However, in the unlikely event they drop the Z51, used Z51s will actually benefit as anyone wanting a Stingray body with Z51 will have to go used. With Corvettes, anytime the factory drops a popular option (model), the used cars that have that option (model) depreciate at a slower rate.

I know what was printed. I still do not believe the Z51 option will exist on the base stingray after the 2016 model year. It'll be base car, GS, Z06. Watch and see...

I have a 2016 Z51 3LT triple black convertible. If the GS was available when I ordered my car, and even if they were the same price, I would have still ordered the Z51. I don't care for the looks of the Z06. The Z51 is much cleaner.

The grand sport has everything the Z51 option includes and more. They'll just raise the price and drop the Z51 option for the base car. If you want the stuff that was in the Z51 option you'll buy a GS. Otherwise you'll have the base Stingray or the Z06. I would be shocked if they offer the Z51 option without ordering a Grand Sport.

I used to be a long time corvette owner (4 over 16yrs). I started to make some more money and moved into a Gallardo, then two different Ferrari's, and now a McLaren. I recently picked up a condition 2 '96 GS coupe from one of my best friends and it has me thinking about coming back to my roots. Selling the McLaren, coming back to a new GS and putting a Katech stage 2 kit in it would really make me happy. I would just need to think about the horrible dealerships Chevy has.

Well, I won't necessarily disagree with you. But I hope it doesn't happen that way because I was looking to buy a 2017 Z51 as soon as orders opened.

I wrote my thoughts out in an earlier post but I'm 50-50 on a GS because I want a daily driver, don't care for the larger spoiler and the wider-body look is the only thing on the GS that has any value for me over a Z51 (I don't even like the rear brake ducts sticking out). On top of this, if a first-year GS is going to be MSRP or more versus 7-12% on a Z51, I'd be kinda screwed if they took away the Z51 option and made the GS pricey too.

Going to be hard choice. I got my 14' Z51 before the first price increase. So with Z skirts and splitter and 520 HP for under 70k I might keep her. Everyone likes a sleeper!!!

No he didn't, he said it was 8k over the BASE price. Which makes perfect sense; After all the GS is just a Z51 with the wide body & brakes from the Z06 with standard magride.

The body panels don't cost much if anything over the coupe panels, the brakes also carry a marginal cost increase over the Z51. so it is just a 2-3k more than a Z51 w/ magride.
