Default Finally, my 1st issue. I'm so excited ;-)

So I go to mute the radio using the button on the radio rather than the steering wheel, nada. Volume up/down ........ Nope. Steering wheel controls work great. Soooooo . . . . I drive by my servicing dealer. Tech hooks up the diagnostics equipment, gets several codes. G M tech center closed till Monday. I get to take it back next week on Tue. He is hoping a software reflash will cure the issue. Even he doesn't want to have to pull thing apart unless absolutely necessary. He did get the system to function correctly by pulling the main fuse. As he said, not something I should have to do. OMG ! I'm gonna get stuck with a Sonic as a loaner car ..........

Good luck. Have had a dealer loaner twice, both things minor. Gave me a huge Tahoe both times. Not into SUV boats, would have preferred a Cruz. Don

happened to me once, turned it off, sat a bit while I did my errands, started it up and it worked fine. There are so many "gliches" with these cars that basically need to be turned off and then back on again, I don't give it any thought any more, price you pay when you don't pay the price.

A Sonic is better than no loaner... well... maybe not.

Actually it is much better than no loaner. Had a 2012 Sonic LTZ for three years - was a dependable, fairly comfortable small car that served me well. And look at it this way, if that's what they give you, it should only be for a day or so.

Best of luck with the dealer - hope they get it fixed quickly and right the first time.

Good luck with the fix. As far as a Sonic goes I have had my 2012 LTZ hatchback daily driver for over three years and absolutely love it.

Tech tried doing that. Let it sit while I played with a new Camaro SS they had on the showroom floor. Not impressed with the cabin btw. Walked around the lot and looked at the 10 or so Corvettes that survived the previous days hailstorm. Not so several hundred Chevy, Honda, Toyota or Hyundai at the dealership's sister stores. Really sad to look at.

He rebooted the system, probably all that was needed. These cars are computer controlled and occasionally they need rebooted. Think about how many times you rebooted your iPhone, iPad, laptop computers. I would postpone the dealer visit, see if it mild functions again. My car rebooted itself at least once; had bad data displayed on the DIC, both screens went black for about a minute except analog speedometer, everything came back with correct information. Has worked perfectly since. This happened 3,000 + miles ago.

I will make the visit. Now that there is an official dealer generated paper trail pertaining to this issue, if I blow it off and down the road something happens again I don't want to risk my warranty recourse. As there are several reflash downloads for the radio, it will be interesting to see what the tech center comes up with based on the codes generated. One of them specifically is a BCM issue. That is not something to play with.

But not nearly as bad as my computers and even my iPad!
Have to tell my wife that all the time with her iPad. She still won't accept that solution is required - but it works!

My car has been pretty much trouble free (only had the black screen issue once). I did have a Chevy My Link problem that turn out to be my iPhone, of all things. Imagine my thoughts when the dealer said it was my phone and not the car. Well it was a corrupted link in my phone; cleared the link rebooted iPhone and paired with car. I had phone corruption problems since usually happens when I use Pandora. There might be upgrades that dealer will install, probably take two or more hours to perform upgrade.

I had a rental LTZ TURBO Sonic. Drove it all the way to the Artic Circle. Not bad!

A battery disconnect can remedy these cliches on occasion, but who wants to do that... I really hate going to the dealership, but unavoidable sometimes. GL

Why will you need a loaner car? How long does it take to re-flash your Infotainment system? I wouldn't think it would take a day even to replace the Infotainment system. Most techs do service at half the time shown in the book and have you pick your car up at the end of the day.

So I don't have to take time off from work. I can drop the car off after work the day before. If all goes good, pick it up the next day. If there should be any issues, at least I would still have the loaner. Heaven forbid I should have to ride my Harley in sunny, 75 degree weather ...........
