Default Naviks vs. Navtool(heh) vs. replacing HMI

I haven't found much real talk about the Naviks system or replacing the HMI to get android auto...and we all know about the debacle that is Navtool... I have a '15 Z51 with Nav and PDR and am wanting to try to get my android phone properly synced with the system....but I don't know the best way to go about doing so. I've hit up the search function with mixed results and I have no idea which direction to try to go.

Can anyone who's used Naviks or replaced their HMI cluster chime in and give some feedback? I could probably order in the HMI shenanigans easy enough assuming it's a viable option. Doesn't seem very cost effective though.

I've never looked at Naviks, that looks interesting. I'm not sure why anyone that just wants cameras hasn't looked at that. Replacing the HMI is $1,000 which I guess is why no one has done that, plus you don't get additional video in from what I understand. Hopefully someone will chime in!

This should help you.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ternative.html

Had it installed for some weeks now and have put hundreds of miles on it on the tank trap roads that are in Central Florida. Seems to work as advertised. No anomalies to report yet.

Naviks offers the plug and play harness now, of course after I installed mine.

Lots of information here on that option: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-the-fact.html

Just remember, this gives you Apple Car Play. You have to wait for them to offer the Android Play option that GM just released. From what I see, both apple and android do not support all apps, only the ones they like. So that leaves out Waze for example. If you want all apps you look at mirroring.

The main problem with mirroring is that the phone's display had to be on or the mirroring goes blank too. So the phone ends up showing me the same screen as the on the dash. If you keep it in your pocket you got to be able to stop screen rotation. At least on my phone, if you run Waze or ED app, they are battery eaters so you have to have it plugged in for charging anyway. So for me, mirroring is a gimmick I don't need much. Not sure how car play works in that regards, but it seems that most of the apps they support, like phone sms, music, are built into the car anyway, so why bother?

Keep in mind replacing the HMI will NOT give you any front camera capability. That is the main use for me.

He has a 2015, which doesn't support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay (both of which are now supported in the 2016's).
