He’s probably missing the separator piece.

DOn't know what the complaints are all about. Never had a problem with the C7 cupholders, the designers did a good job.

I think they work very well.

If you want to see a really bad cup holder just look at any C5.

Our C6 had exactly what you describe- rubber "nubs" that would accept even a large cup, but would still grab and hold a small one.
I consider the change to the C7 version one of those "WTF were they thinking?" items.

EDIT: The removable "partition" is nice, but it still could have been made with rubber nubs like the C6.

I've been using a Tervis 16oz tumbler with lid - perfect fit in the C7 cup holder. These are pretty cheap and widely available with lots of graphics - see tervis.com.

A couple caveats: They don't insulate as well as the stainless steel types and the sliding closure on the lid is not leak-proof.

The only problem I have with them is the migrating center divider.

Went to Spring Mountain last week and got this handy water bottle for use while out on the track. Stayed in place throughout every turn with no problem and holds a decent amount of water.

I'm sure something similar could be found on Amazon or elsewhere....

I'm sure I posted somewhere in this Thread with pic and PDF but a ~month after I got my September 2013 built C7 I spilled a full water bottle when I stopped short! The plastic divider tilted allowing the bottle to fall forward!

Developed a simple solution that I also used in my Grand Sport. It allows a full water bottle to hold fine in a 1 'g' turn and 1++ 'g' stop!

In Words: Remove the ~3/32 thick rubber insert on the bottom of the recess (it just pulls out.) Then use UV activated plastic adhesive to make a fillet and attach the insert permanently to the base.

The recess is 3/32 inches deeper and with some felt pads my water bottle fits like a glove! FWIW

New member/owner with something (hopefully) worthwhile on a near zombie thread. This
https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=15993

They fit nice and snug and are generally on sale with free shipping for <$7. They keep ice frozen overnight and warm beverages warm.

No affiliation, just sharing.

Cheers!

No food or coffee allowed in any of my corvettes so i could not care less about a cup holder. If i need to eat or get a drink i can go inside.

I have water in my car all the time. Fixed my cup holder in the 2014 C7 after water spilled! Made my cup fit tight but in a 1+ "g" stop the full bottle tilted the cup insert! The insert is not held very securely and it tilted forcing the water bottle to tilt! Spilled water all over.

I recently improved my old method of securing the insert with a much simpler method. I found there was a rubber insert on the whole bottom so I removed it and gained 3/32 inch extra depth and a more secure place to attached the insert. Then I used UV activated liquid plastic adhesive and made a fillet along the bottom of both front and back of the insert and up driver's side of the insert! Set with the UV light and it holds rock solid. You can still use the cover but can no longer remove the insert. (It can be removed-but not easily!)

Depending on the bottle will need some felt pads and/or the soft side of some Velcro to make the bottle snug. However if you drive aggressively you need more than a snug fit bottle since the cup insert is not fastened securely.

1) Removed rubber bottom insert and gain 3/32 inches and provide a place to secure the easily moved insert!,

2) Used liquid plastic adhesive and made a fillet on both front and back sides of the divider insert and along the driver's sides. UV activates the adhesive,

3) Cup secured with some felt pads and the soft side of Velcro just to make it a snug fit. Lid closes fine.

Cup insert moves easily causing bottle to tilt and spill

Remove rubber insert from base (it just pulls out) that gains 3/32 depth and allows attachment of insert to floor of recess.

I use this C7 logo bottle and some felt pads and soft side of Velco strip to make snug. Holds in 1 "g" turn and 1++ "g" stop with full bottle of water! Keeps me hydrated-would not drive without it. Otherwise support no other drink or food!

Short water bottles don't spill or launch to the nether regions of the cabin, and a properly sized CLOSING LID insulated cup works great...

I found that my YETI cup fit snug on the cup holder, you should look into it.

In fairness, driving conditions are very different in the two countries. Germans don't generally have the long freeway commutes (I go 45 miles one way) that make cupholders useful in the U.S.

20oz Yeti Rambler fits nice and snug. I face the drinking slot forward, as I'm more apt to cause sloshing from acceleration, instead of braking.

And yes.. I paid the Chive premium to have the BFM version of it.

Everyone is posting that they're not having any problems with their water bottles (with a cap on it) or all the different thermos type cups, but we're complaining about the big gulp and fast food waxed paper cups not staying in place. These cups tend to be narrower on the bottom and won't stay in the holder because the holders are too low and don't have rubber grippers to help hold the cups in place. Come on GM, it's an easy fix and shouldn't cost a lot of pennies to remedy.

Especially since they had the grippers that worked well in the C6 and, in one of those "WTF were they thinking?" moves, deleted them from the C7.
