Auto-Dimming rearview mirror upgrade

OnStar is standard on all C7 regardless of trim, plus he said this...
...so I'm assuming it will be an easy plug-n-play swap.

owc6, yes sir you get Onstar with the non dimming mirror on a 16 A8 1LT Coupe. I prefer a non dimmer as well. When I bought my 67 Mustang at age 16 I thought a switch to dim the brights lights was very cool. Easily amused in the 70's.

hehe, yes i agree, been there, done that. ya i got on star, and could care less about it. but i am wanting to change the door mirror to dimming. my tint on rear glass is enough to not hinder in the rear view mirror.

I think the housings are the same, you only have to change the glass, and run the wires thru the door, thru the hinge harness, and up to the inside mirror.

At night, my mirrors don't dim unless some truck has its headlights blasting in.

There is no "sensor" in the outside mirror. The inside rearview mirror contains the light sensor, and just dims the outside and inside mirror whenever the sensor detects the light from a car behind you.

And then fish two wires thru the door, up to the inside mirror. Somebody should post a picture of the electrical connector on an autodim inside mirror, to verify that the connector has the 2 wires that need to be connected to the outside mirror. GM may have two part numbers for the inside autodim mirror, one for cars without the outside mirror 1LT (and 2 less pins in the connector on the mirror), and a different pn for cars optioned (2LT or 3LT) which have the outside autodim glass.
I did this retrofit on another car, and VW saved half a cent by deleting these two pins on the inside mirror. I had to crack-open the mirror to add these two wires.

just talked to my Stealership, informs me i need to buy the whole mirror, housing and whole jam, then have it painted. i can t see that happening. any pics i have viewed shows the glass attaching to the acuator/adjuster and wires run off of it. He tells me the wiring harness is way different. oh well. was worth a try.
thanks for all the input.
