OnStar is standard on all C7 regardless of trim, plus he said this...

I don't have my car yet but I assume it's as easy as covering the light sensor. Or if you want to lessen sensitivity, use a black sharpie to tint over the sensor.

Yes, if you buy the outside auto-dim mirror glass, and run the two wires from the door mirror to the interior auto-dim mirror.

looks like i would have to change the housing ? and i am sure inside the door somewhere it is wired for it, i would have to change the whole unit by looks of it.

owc6, yes sir you get Onstar with the non dimming mirror on a 16 A8 1LT Coupe. I prefer a non dimmer as well. When I bought my 67 Mustang at age 16 I thought a switch to dim the brights lights was very cool. Easily amused in the 70's.

If you cover the sensor the mirror will stay in the dark, fully-dimmed mode. I think people don't want it to dim at all.

I think the housings are the same, you only have to change the glass, and run the wires thru the door, thru the hinge harness, and up to the inside mirror.

I understand that. The wires are attached to the glass or a sensor in the mirror ? I have looked at gm parts and is not very definitive.

They way mine works is if the sensor on the dash senses its dark, and the sensor on the mirror senses a light (like headlights), then it dims.

At night, my mirrors don't dim unless some truck has its headlights blasting in.

For an Auto-dim heated mirror, there are a total of 4 wires connected to the glass: 2 for auto-dim, plus 2 for the heater.

There is no "sensor" in the outside mirror. The inside rearview mirror contains the light sensor, and just dims the outside and inside mirror whenever the sensor detects the light from a car behind you.

If you cover the sensor on the mirror (the one that faces the rear window), the mirror will never dim.

And then fish two wires thru the door, up to the inside mirror. Somebody should post a picture of the electrical connector on an autodim inside mirror, to verify that the connector has the 2 wires that need to be connected to the outside mirror. GM may have two part numbers for the inside autodim mirror, one for cars without the outside mirror 1LT (and 2 less pins in the connector on the mirror), and a different pn for cars optioned (2LT or 3LT) which have the outside autodim glass.

I did this retrofit on another car, and VW saved half a cent by deleting these two pins on the inside mirror. I had to crack-open the mirror to add these two wires.

just talked to my Stealership, informs me i need to buy the whole mirror, housing and whole jam, then have it painted. i can t see that happening. any pics i have viewed shows the glass attaching to the acuator/adjuster and wires run off of it. He tells me the wiring harness is way different. oh well. was worth a try.
thanks for all the input.

This is the location of the sensor.

Or buy some Light Dims. I bought a variety pack with differing levels of tint and silver dots. Works perfectly, and they are easy to peel off if some jerk in a lifted truck is blasting his brights.
