C7 Grand Sport vs GT350R...Ford making it hard not to look

If you could actually get a GT350R at MSRP, then I would go for that. Seems unlikely, though, and given the "market" prices that people are paying for the R, I think the Grand Sport will likely be a better purchase.

At the end of the day it's still a ___________ and so I'll take my (Insert favorite car in the whole wide world here).
The GT350R from what I've read and heard from credible sources in this great automotive universe we car geeks live in is that the car is legit, a seriously capable AND enjoyable sports car.
Kudos to the FORD team for building a mustang that equals or beats the best Corvettes on sale today.
Oh and Matt Farah owns a Corvette and gets to drive pretty much anything and everything thats cool. he knows a good car when he drives one and he wants one!

MSRP for the GT350R is going to be 64k, Grand Sport reported to be 65k.
Head to head, these cars are really treading on some similar water. The GT350R is certainly track focused. It appears the "track pack", in order to obtain the appropriate coolers will add 7k to msrp, while the GS will come standard with the Z51's track capable equipment.
So, consider possibly equivalent cars at 71k for the Mustang, and 65k for the GS. The GT350R comes with the incredibly awesome flat plane 5.2 liter 526hp and 429ft/lb, plus OEM carbon wheels and cup2's. Now, that comes with a curb weight of 3760, so slightly plumper than the C7 GS.
I have to admit...it's damn hard not to think about it. I personally am hoping this Grand Sport can pull off some magic with the LT1 because Fords guys are really putting all the cards on the table. Other brands are seeing validity with doing track day machines, and Corvette is holding back just slightly. That's certainly a demographics issue...no question.
What say you Corvette lovers?

cant believe the put downs in this forum..
the 350 is a neat car. so are corvettes.
my take away on the 350gt. The motor is cool, but visit the forums and some are already blown. also some trannies. flat plane crank is a cool idea but before i'd buy one of these cars several things would need to happen (which wont). they need to be out for a long enough time for me to determine if the flat-plane crank is a liability and second, the price gouging would need to stop.
also, from what i can tell the new SS camaro comes close if not equal to the performance if the 350gt, the motor is proven (vette motor) and it appears that there are enough being made so that you wont get gouged.

I work at Ford. Getting a GT350 is impossible, getting an R is even more impossible. Unless you want to buy a "dealer car" and pay some ridiculous ADM. There also is no A/Z-Plan on it so Employees like me have to pay full price. Dealers are getting at most 3 allocations per year, 1 R, two standard, if they are lucky.
I owned a 2008 Corvette which I sold. I bought a 2016 to replace it. My 2016 Z51 3LT Corvette (MSRP $81,730) was $73,750 with GM Employee Discount, which I get thru my Aunt. It was a no brainer decision, and I'll say it again I work for Ford.
I like the GT350, and had the process to order one been more normal, I'd have considered buying one, but it wasn't.
I've let people at work know this too. But Ford Performance wants to limit production, and we don't seem to be like FCA who punished dealers who marked up Hellcats (then raised production numbers). So I'll be driving to Ford every day... in my Corvette. Well, at least 3 seasons of the year.
Anecdotally, a co-worker of mine has been on a wait list since the GT350 and R were announced. He was 6th on the list, and will be lucky to get a 2017 car by November of this year at MSRP. He STILL doesn't know if he will get an R or if he has to "settle" for a regular GT350.

I'm throwing in my 2 cents worth, and that's all I'm claiming its worth.
Here goes... The mustang shown above is a beautiful car, and strong. The flat plane crank is a great idea, even if Ford didn't think of it first. I believe Karl Benz invented it in 1896. However, and there's always a however, the Mustang is a 4 seater pony car, always was, always will be. The GS, as are all Vettes, is a 2 seater sports car. It is an apples/oranges comparison. If fast is all you want, go for it. If a classic 2 seater, made in AMERICA, sports car is what you want, there it is in the Corvette.
I believe BenCasey made the statement: 2) It is a fair comparison, because those who want a vette will also look at the Mustang, in the exact same fashion that some picked a 2016 Camaro over the vette . Wrong... I NEVER looked at a Mustang or Camaro because I, like many others here, wanted a Corvette no matter what. I love the brand, 2 seats, and top styling. Rant off

Holy crap!!! Whodathunkit....a thread in the corvette forum that involves a potential competitor and it turns into a .
If you don't feel they should be compared, why get so worked up because some1 else feels they do. Some of you guys with your butthurt are funny as chyt. Guess what, no matter how many seats it has, its cost or color...line em up or meet at the track and they are competition!! Take off your blinders for goodness sakes .

When Shopping for my Stingray I never once considered looking at a Mustang or a Camaro. I compared 3 make's, Jaguar F type, Porsche Cayman S and the Stingray. I was wanting a Sports car.

A neighbor around the corner has a 350. The first time he drove by I gave it a look but felt no excitement, NOTHNG! Since I took delivery of my 2016 C7 when he drives by I think, MAN AM I GLAD I OWN A C7

Which is good but I'm sure he's thinking the same thing about his car compared to yours.

How could it be a comparison when little is known about the Grand Sport? Do you really believe the guys are going to jump on the Mustang bandwagon because of the marvelous things said about it? What are some of guys suppose to say on this Corvette Forum? And yes......this car according to professionals seems very competitive with the other street/track cars. Having said that, nothing can be compared until the Grand Sport makes its debut at the track. All of this is just speculation. Just my .02

They are both great cars but if think you'll ever get a non biased answer to your question in here good luck.
Ask the same question in the Other Cars section and see what kind of answers you get.

Some forums have car enthusiasts and some have status seekers. As stated earlier here, unfortunately, Rennlist can recognize a capable machine regardless of brand badging. No real enthusiast can deny what Ford has built here...you just can't do it. How that makes me a "salesman" is beyond me.
To the random negative posters to me (as OP), I've owned well over 100 vehicles in my years and not one was a Mustang. I never even remotely considered it. To date I've had 6 Corvettes and can document my involvement with the Corvette brand 10 years prior to even owning one. I'm a FULL advocate of the Corvette....but when someone builds a badass car, I'm going to say something about it. In my book the GT350R is more impressive that the GenV Viper, and possibly more refined, as it's based upon a higher production vehicle.
The fact that some people can't comfortably talk about other machines, only invalidates the Corvette and it's ownership.

That may be but I wonder why when I was pulling out of my garage onto the driveway and he was pulling onto the street towards my house he abruptly turned to go the other way?

Wait when Ford drops a SC on top of the Flat Plan Crank and calls it the new GT500...

Trying so hard, spending their weekend vigorously defending themselves and their position and then calling the OP butthurt.

Well, here's the deal boost, rc, and the other actual auto enthusiasts: you're valiantly attempting to have an intelligent conversation on the internet. I mean, I know you were thinking that since we're all vette fanbois..
Jesus, hillbillies came out of the wood work to chit on just the mere comparison of two great cars - if that doesn't tell you what you need to know.. But that's OK guys, because there are smart people around here, the signal to noise ratio is **** poor though. Hillbillies do that, that's their job.
OK. Anyway. I chit my pants when I heard the engine on that 350.
The vette sounds, well, I thought it was the best until I heard that 350. yes, yes, I would rather have my vette, but if I were rich, I would rather own both! And a 911.

I never said anything bad about the Mustang, either. I was pointing out that Mustangs and Corvettes are in two classes and don't compare well, other than to compete for your dollars. In any race discipline I'm familiar with except drag racing they are in different classes. So I guess I'm not the only one who sees them as such.
Name calling, as some have done in the forum, isn't cool, either. I hope I, and my 2 cents worth, haven't offended anyone.
