Warble sound occasionally
#1381
These rear ends are so over engineered for high HP/Torque motors it's not funny. Now in warranty sure bring it back till it's fixed but if you Google 'blown rear end gears' or whatever you will find a few but it's very rare. There are complaints about 'whine, clunking, MPH pinpoints etc. American transmissions have always bin reliable too. There must be a weak link. This tranny/rear end has been used in GM cars for a while, even longer with this rear end.

I'm not sure why GM would try to hide this warble sound issue? They could easily charge the vendor of the rear differential for all the replacement units and labor. I'm not sure but, doesn't GETRAG or MAGNA produce these rear ends?

Not much chatter on the WARBLE so I hope this means you guys are getting your diff. replaced and all is well. We should take a pole and see how many have been replaced.

A strange thing has happened with mine Bruce. The last two times I've taken the car out I can't get the thing to warble. Even when putting it into prime warble mode. I just don't get it. It's either fixed itself, or it's getting ready to come apart. Either way it needs to do something as we want to take it on a long road trip in August.

My warble has also disappeared. It goes in for an oil change in a couple weeks. I'll ask the techs how difficult is it to open up the diff and check the fluid?

I wouldn't think it would be that difficult, and I may do the same thing. The most it will cost will be for the fluid change. And that would well worth it to me just to make sure all is good back there.

Not difficult at all to check fluid, two plugs, one drains fluid out and fill it to it runs out the other plug. Strange that you guys noise has stopped. Hope it stays that way.

Thanks Bruce. Like the Colonel mine is due for an oil change. I will try to finesse a free fluid change explaining the noise (as I haven't yet) to the Service Writer. You never know unless you ask.

The chirping noise went away after the dealer replaced the mufflers.
Thank you!
Thank you!
What I noticed in the video is that it occurs when switching from v4 to v8. Right before the switch the afm valves are closed and the change in flow can be heard right before the afm valves open. Some leakage of gases is occuring where the xpipe connects with the muffler pipes. I quickly fixed this by wrapping some metallic exhaust tape all around the slip fit connection because I've been too lazy to reattach everything properly myself. like I said above, my car sounded exactly the same . Keep us updated .

My 2015 A8 has had a slight "warble" at 70 to 75 Mph since new. I noticed it on the drive home from dealer pick-up and hoped it would wear in (differential) when the gears meshed a little better. Never has, 22K on the clock and it's no better, no worse, just a little annoying. I figure if it was going to break it would have by now and there is a 5/50 on the power train anyhow. It's not loose or clunking in the drive train so to be truthful, my "give-a-sh**" level on it is pretty low. Also I'm not thrilled about have my car ripped apart, although my dealer has an excellent corvette tech that I'm sure is more than capable of a R&R of the rear-end.

Warble
warble gone since new diff. Also installed corsa extreme at the same time. So at 1500 rpm the corsas kick in I tried to listen for a warble but nothing.

I was one of the first to get the corrected diff. All good since then with about 1500 miles on the new one.

I can't explain it Bruce, but I had mine out last weekend and the dang thing just wouldn't warble. This actually worries me more than the warble as we plan to take ours to Yellowstone from North Carolina next August. The last thing I want is to be stranded in the middle of no where. I'm going to ask my Service Writer if they will check the diff fluid when I take her in for an oil change next month. I'll pay for that if I have to, because I need to know. I will report back on the findings.
