Default Place your bets...will the GrandSport get the A10 to have that edge?

The A10 transmission is a joint venture between GM and Ford, and while not much is known about the transmission overall, we have seen the video of the ZL1 which is equipped with it. The big, noticeable difference is that shifts are absolutely immediate upon request of the paddle, unlike the slight delay of the A8.

GM confirms the A10 will be in 8 models for 2018, but it will be in at least one confirmed model so far for 2017. The A10's advantage is the tigher gear spacing keeps the engine in more of an optimal power range to provide a higher rate of acceleration. I will say one thing, if they plant this A10 in the GrandSport, boy is that gonna kickstart the sh*t out of that car. The GrandSport could really benefit from that edge over the Z51 for a year. I could argue a potential yes and a potential no on the A10 being equipped. I can't imagine they debut the tranny an entire year in only a Camaro...some Corvette has to get it.

I have to admit...I love a manual, and that's like the route I'd go, but if the 2017 GS has the A10, I'm going that route. I can't believe GM might make me buy a damn auto slushbox...

Since the ZL1 is getting the A10, it seems likely all the C7's will get the A10. I guess we'll all know in 2 weeks at the Bash. The only wrinkle to that theory, is Z06 production doesn't start till Sept and ZL1 production isn't scheduled till the fall as well. Could be the holdup is they aren't done testing the A10, and are only going to put those tranny's in the Z06 and ZL1 for now. Course that's all just speculation, which is what we always do just before the Bash. Always a lot of fun, like kids waiting for Santa Claus.

Are we talking PDK fast shifts or simply better than the A8?

Not interested in an automatic but curious

Based on what I have read, the A10 will not fit into a C7. Its just too big and there is not enough room. My guess it will be in The C8.

From what I read it will fit in a Corvette and is actually a couple of pounds lighter. So, who really knows?

Just watch the first minute of the video of the ZL1...shifts are much quicker than A8. Quicker in that, you pull, it shifts. I think shift actuation is likely right there with the A8 (which is faster than PDK in terms of shift actuation).

I'm a manual guy, all day, everyday. Out of over 100 cars owned, I bet 5 were autos and I hated literally all but one (my escalade). If I buy an auto, it's because I really feel the car can be more focused and driven harder. That said, I may be checking the M7 box when I sign on the line. That A10 is impressive though...no question.

The biggest hint, as noted above, is that 2017 Stingray production (including GS) begins in June but Z06 is delayed 3 months.

The Z06 has become heavy while the Camaro is lighter than ever. With both having the same engine the 2017 Z06 shouldn't be released with an inferior transmission to the 2017 ZL1. It has to remain the fastest Chevy. Not so much urgency for the regular Stingrays.

Wow, that video is something else. The shifting sounds like the Corvette race car shifting. Very impressive.

See the 10 speed in the 2017 Z06 for sure. The delay in the 2017 Z06 could be for the 10-spd or something else. Maybe a 700hp option

BB got stuffed when then announced the GS overseas. Gez we bail out GM and ....

isn't the A10 a transmission for a Front Engine Car? Nobody has any info that it will be available as a Transaxle for the C7 ..

High chance it will be on the Z06
Low chance it will be on the GS/Stingrays

@bolded...
Which is why I don't think the new C7 GS will have the A10.

Of course, we are merely speculating.

A10 is rwd and the GM 9spd was for front wheel drive. That was the arrangement between ford and gm...ford does one, gm does the other.

I think that's a valid possibility. On the other hand, anticipating the initial spike of Grand Sport sales and pre-orders that are in place, only makes sense to delay Z06 production, as the GS and Z06 share components. I think you're point is possible, but we have seen multiple constraints applied to Z51 and Z06 components due to the supply chain being overwhelmed.

GM likely doesn't want to commit to excessive numbers of body panels, bumpers, pieces, etc., so they pace production/purchasing accordingly.

I remember back in the mid 60's when GM's Muncie plant couldn't keep up with the demand for 4 speed manual transmissions, so they turned to Ford, and put Ford 4 speeds in some Pontiacs.

I also remember I had a 64 GTO Vert with a 3 spd all syncro trans and I blew the cluster gear in it one cold day. I had a heck of a time replacing the trans. Why? Because Pontiac used a Ford all syncro 3 speed as their base from 64-67 when GM finally made one. The 3 spd in the Chevies couldn't handle the 389's torque. Good trivia fact.
