To be honest it is near impossible to paint a car without orange peel unless it is wet sanded and buffed. That gives the show car finish that you see in the Barret Jackson type auctions. For some reason though the C7's have more of it. It's not for everyone, but my personal perference is to have that slick surface even though it's more maintenance to keep it that way. Goes back to my previous body shop experience. I see things other people won't notice.

I call BS on this post. I've been on this lot more times than I can count. I've never seen a serious scratch on any of the cars. If it's really that big of a concern...Simply order your car and pray a rock doesn't hit it during transport or when the dealer removes the white cover.

After reading many posts over the years, I seriously think there are plants on this forum to disparage a particular dealer and raise false doubt over which dealer a prospective customer should deal with. Being that the 100 top dealer list was just released, there's little doubt that some of the dealers that didn't fare as well are going after the bigger dealers that sold the most cars with Kerbeck being on top of the hit list.

Seriously, if the big dealers were so bad, they wouldn't sell as many cars as they do.

I truly was amazed at the paint job of the C7. I love the car but the ones on the show room floor almost look like they were repainted by a shoddy paint shop. The flagship car should have a fantastic paint job. My old 95 paint for some reason looked better. Even with the orange peel paint job I would still love to have a C7 as they grew on me.

I just bought my Vert from Kerbeck a little over 2 weeks ago.
While they were prepping my car, I walked around the lot.
All the vettes looked fine to me.
My car was mint on delivery. Orange peel was minimal. Better than my C6.
I'd be more worried about cars sitting outside for long periods and exposed to things like bird crap.

Well you already did all you can do spread a bunch of about a forum dealer and ride away in your 2008.

A lot of times scratches from this type of washing aren't obvious. What they do is dull the finish over time as you get more and more of them.

That said, there's almost no way to avoid them. If the finish of your paint is super important to you, just accept the fact that eventually you're going to have to get it corrected. Mine certainly has some micro-scratches after only a month on the road but I'm not going to stress over something most people need to right on top of the car to see.

I thought you were supposed to wet sand and buff it, after delivery.

Just curious-if you were a dealer with a hundred or so vettes outside in the weather-how would you wash them-each by hand using the 2 bucket method with a microfiber towel to gently dry each one. Gotta be a litle realistic about the situation- at least they are washed. Don't like it- order a car instead.

Yes, my AW C7 was purchased and delivered from NJ, and yes it had minor scratches all over. I just took it to a local auto detailer and had him polish and apply Wolfgang coating I had already purchased and planned to put on. I figured it was going to need a clay and a minor polish when I got it shipped to me, but it was more than I wanted to do myself. I have all the tools and polish, but just wanted it done quickly rather than me spending a few hours a day for a week to work on it.

I got a great deal on the car, so the $500 to polish and apply the coating was not that big of a deal. Just not what I wanted to deal with right off the bat.

Maybe MacMulkins cars are better since they are stored in doors until purchased, but I'm sure they also get an initial wash from their "detailer" prior to going in their facility, so they could be similarly scratched. They were just a few days late on matching the 12% discount at the time I bought.

WTF! Is there a school or something that I need to go to learn how to wash my car? My salesman didn't tell me anything. I can't find it in the owners manual. I didn't realize I was doing it all wrong!

Will this hurt my resale value?

I took deliver of my car at MacMulkin and I showed up too early, i.e. they weren't done prepping it yet... my fault for being early. So, they actually invited me to the back to check up on progress and there was their detailer, rotary polisher in hand, carefully and diligently waxing the last panel of my car. I even had a quick chat with him, and I can guarantee that my car came with zero swirls, hairlines etc... and had a great coat of wax down upon delivery. That guy definitely takes pride in his work.

Most dealers don't even use the soap or brush. Pressure wash and dry. It is what it is.

My car wash training certificate was included in my Ron Fellows packet.
