A guy in a supercharged Subaru WRX wanted to try me just now.
It was making a lot of noise. It might have been moderately interesting. Never mind that there was traffic in the way. These guys always act so tough when there's traffic the way.

I've seen that more than a few times from guys in Subaru's. I've thought a few of them a lesson. They usually give up real quick, as it's quickly apparent they haven't a chance.

I really don't know much about those, the WRX is turbocharged isn't it?

The STi has a 2.5 turbocharged 4 cylinder boxer engine that will make about 20 lbs of boost. Stock it has no chance against a stock Stingray. If highly modified, they may give a stock C7 a good run. I've seen 500 RWHP STi's. Subaru leaves a lot of power for the tweakers in these engines. I've driven one hard and it's a fun little car.

Wow. Hope you're kidding but if not, they are NOT the same. A Supercharger is driven by a belt attached to the crank shaft. I turbo charger is driven by exhaust. They both produce boost but are very different.

A few weeks back I had one pull up next to me at a light, I looked over and it was a younger kid and a girl, tons of tuner stickers all over the back windows and it was obviously tuned judging by the sound of the exhaust and bov. I had seen him weaving in and out of cars to catch up to me so I am sure the lines of cars behind us at the light were expecting to see a race. He took off from the light like it was Friday night at the races and I just slowly pulled away and sure enough we hit the next light again. He revs the engine up and is edging his car to the line. Light turns green, same thing. Finally we hit a third light and I have to admit, it took some control to not hit the traction control button and launch it. Instead I blip the throttle a few times and let the headers sing a bit. He thought I was gonna race so he takes off again like its a race and I just slowly pull away from the line and just does a u turn after that.
Not worth getting baited into a street race, getting a ticket, losing a license and possibly going to jail. Not to mention you get to illegal speeds so fast, no telling what can happen if a car pulls out or something unexpected. Would be nice to shut someone like that down but I wont do it on a road w/ other cars around. I would have taken him, I know it has awd but I know what ours will do as well and that traction control levels the field pretty well.

Turbocharged and supercharged are two different methods of forced air induction. Turbocharging is using the exhaust gases to spin a fan wheel (hot wheel) on a shaft that has a cold wheel on the other end that then forces outside air from the air filter into an engine to allow for more fuel and create more horsepower. Supercharging is a belt driven fan off of a series of pullies that are crankshaft driven. Supercharging is a parasitic load on an engine but it's response is almost instantaneous, generally quicker that turbocharged systems. Two different systems, end results close to the same....big horsepower from smaller engines.

There was a story several years ago about some guy in a Viper who was heading to the pharmacy vs a Mustang, both stopped at a red light. The guy in the Viper rev's the engine. The light turns green, the Mustang takes off like a bat out of heck. The guy in the Viper rolls on through the intersection, turns left into the shopping center and heads for the pharmacy. The guy in the Mustang lost control and crashed. The accident killed a cheerleader in a car. Witnesses said the guy in the Viper didn't race him, but that didn't matter to the cops. The Viper driver was charged with manslaughter, along with the Mustang driver.

Wow. Some of you guys are very ignorant. Without going indepth, I have a strong "tuner" background and a subsequent deep respect for that culture. Some of you guys need to get off of your high horse because it's people like you who are ruining how enthusiasts look at us in general. Remember, we drive Corvettes, not Lambos. LoL

Whoops...found the Honda Prelude guys talking about it. Link to story posted on their web site is old and won't connect, but they discussed it. Back in 2008.
Apology accepted.
