That's one lucky Grandson, he will remember that for years to come!!

When I was 17 I switched schools and my Dad would let me drive his new C5 Z06 to school. I thought I was the luckiest kid on the planet driving that car 25 MPH the whole mile to school. I was bit by the corvette bug then, and little did I know I would eventually be racing for RideTech and throwing theirs around road courses at 125+.

Way to start him young!!

Default loaned car

I loaned my c-5 at the time for my son's prom. He was covered on our insurance.
What has to be considered here and nobody's talking about it

IS HE COVERED ON YOUR INSURANCE OTHERWISE IT'S ALSO A $90,000 GAMBLE
Glad it turned out ok though

Most insurance policies cover the car with any driver unless you have specific exceptions.

Believe me insurance company was called, but only after I had decided to let him drive it. I almost wanted the agent to tell me they wouldn't cover him but I guess 18 is old enough, they gave me the go-ahead........the rest is history.

Almost makes me feel guilty, I said no to my son about driving my vette to prom. For my situation, it was the right decision.

That is the key to making your decision.....you know your child or Grandchild better than anyone. I let him drive because he has proven himself through-out his life. I know my father wouldn't have let me drive his car if he were still alive during my teens. I was a terror and I know it............My grandson has made me very proud, I am glad I was able to give him a memory he will never forget.

super nice thing to do for your grandson, you know they had a wonderful and memorable evening. One question---and think about it hard, would you have loaned the Z06 to your granddaughter and her prom date?

Good for you.

I'm sure that night became really memorable for both driving the Z06 and knowing you trusted him with it.

That being said, NO she wouldn't get to drive my vette.....Why you ask?
I was bad growing up but she makes me look like a Saint. Yes I love her to death and I know there ain't no guy gonna give her grief about anything, but she's just not responsible enough yet. She can drive her mother's car.

I agree wholeheartedly---I wouldn't trust me(when I was 17 or 18) driving that fine, super fast ride and I'd surely talk my girlfriend or date out from behind the wheel.
