Default Convertible top motion sensor

I looked in the manual to no avail, so I'm wondering if anyone knows, and if so, how they know:

Does the motion sensor in the convertible work when the top is down? I've read it's only enabled when the top is up, so that if you had your top cut and someone reached in, it would go off. But if you leave the top down, the motion is disabled, and you're on your own.

Anyone know?

A few weeks ago I had my top down put my arm into the car to get a book out of it with me having the key mode to the car not on me. It went off like someone was braking into it.
