Realizing how absurd the Z06 is
Besides my earlier post about the painted black wheels chipping, I've been thinking about this all day.
I have been thrilled with my Z and, while not yet exploring any limits, driving more aggressively when presented with opportunities and becoming more "comfortable" with the insane power at my right foot.
The past 2 days, I have been driving my friends 2016 Z51 Coupe while my car is getting Xpel.
When I first started driving yesterday, I kept thinking that the Z51 felt "ordinary" (which it is NOT ordinary by any means). Driving my daughter to dinner, she was amazed by the Z51 Coupe and was smiling, but I felt a little numb.
I LOVE Vettes, and the C7 is the greatest yet, all of them, but this morning it hit me. What GM offers in the Z06, for the money charged, is otherworldly, so much so that a Z51 Coupe felt lethargic. For a Daily driver, a base C7 or Z51 is almost overkill with the performance you can achieve, but after spending the time driving the Z06 everyday, the "regular" C7 is downright perfect in that role.
I feel lucky and fortunate that I am around in an era where 460 HP or 650 HP sports cars are available for purchase and enjoyment.
After driving the Z51 today, it felt much more special being because of being another day removed from the Z06, so much so that I am sure that I would've been completely satisfied with it being mine.
Just amazing. The Z06 is really mind altering.

You know what....I'm fine with my Z51. All my car buddies said, "Steven, never buy the first year of a new Generation."
I did anyway. When the ZO6 came out, I almost thought they were right. But with the extra insurance, less gas mileage, heat issues-460 horsepower is plenty fine for me. I've never had 460 horsepower-what would I do with 650 horsepower?

I'm wanting A Z06. I just checked insurance.I have a 14 C7 base,7M.I pay $57 a month.
I checked the numbers on a new Z06 it said $134 a month.So with nearly 200 HP more I'd
Like to go that route but with the $70 more a month insurance I'm not quite sure.

It's a beast, no doubt. Test drove one and loved it!
Long story short, I didn't trust myself in it and I refused to pay msrp (no discounts back in late September).

Z06is fabulous but you pay a weight toll of 200 plus pounds. The new GS may be faster because of it on a race track. But raw power is addictive.

Lol...I asked myself the same question, before pulling the trigger. What I found is that I:
- Smile More
- Laugh More
- Pass More
- Speed more...
The power in this car is never ending but also it is so smooth. I found the Z51 was more jerky when it needed to down shift and accelerate...the Z06 just seems to say, "meh" and just does it.

I am fortunate to have both. I look for reasons to take the Z06 somewhere, anywhere, it doesn't matter. It's a thrill every time I hit the start button until I hit it again to shut it down. Just getting in and looking at the dash, the interior, the boost gauge makes me smile. When it rains or I'm going grocery shopping at Walmart I take the Stingray. It's not the same. Kind of a let down, until I start it up, then the smile returns. It's much more civilized, easier to drive, you can relax more. The Z06 is just raw, noisy, & brutal. You can't let your guard down for a minute. Potholes, steep driveway, railroad tracks, rutted roads, you name it. If you miss anything it's gonna cost you somehow. But when you push down with your right foot even just a little, there's a feeling of you wouldn't give this up for anything and it's worth every penny in a $100K.
I went to get pizza Tuesday night. Came out and there were at least 25-30 people standing around and looking at the car, including the manager and most of the employees. They all hung around after I answered their questions because they wanted to hear it when it started. It was not a disappointment.

I've put too much time and money into modding my Z51. I've got to be happy with what I've got.....I am.

They both rock.
One girl is easy to bring home to Mom. The other one, when Mom looks at her and then looks at you, you just look at Mom and shrug your shoulders (while thinking about last night's romp in the sack).

So close today to trade into a z06. Local dealer has 10!!! And a red z07 with a mans transmission
Deals are everywhere, and what kills me is that I could afford it.
But then what!? Peak now at 42? Save up for a super car? Where do you go after this thing?
I drive my z51 everywhere. Literally. 8100 miles since I picked it up on 10/31/15. It snarls, hauls ***, looks cool too. I got 27 mpg hauling *** from San Jose to San Diego. I mean it. Track mode through back canyons, and 80-90 on the freeway.
I don't quite know what my fear is of the z. It seems ostentatious, ridiculous, all,in the most awesome sense. Too much for me. I'm a dad. A working guy. I like my good mileage, I like having something to look forward to... Which will one day be a ridiculous car like the z.
But then again... If awesome is right there. Just sitting there. I might go back to the dealership this weekend.

Have gone from 140hp Miatas to 800hp stroked/blown C5's. Once you've had a taste of that kind of power, it's easy to not only get use to it, but to crave even more.

While having annual state inspection done on my car at my dealer last Saturday, I admired a AW Z06 roadster in their showroom. I even took a bunch of pictures of the beautiful car. I learned last night that someone took delivery last week and has totaled it already. Evidently the poor owner was not ready for 650 ponies. Feel bad for him/her.

If I'd have saved my pennies up for another year, I'd have been able to get into a Z06. I debated on that, talked it out with Wifey, and my inner-kid-I-want-it-now landed me in my 2LT. No regrets, it's more power than I've ever had (my '12 5.0 was a slug compared to this) and every single time I stop someone is commenting on the color (DSOM).
I'm still a little jealous when I see a Z06, because of the "coulda been"s, and all that power, but I'm very happy cruising along in "just" a Stingray with Wifey.
