I don't see a reason to use OnStar for "navigation help." If you can't program your nav system, you really shouldn't be driving. So that part of it is an unnecessary expense. But the theft and crash detection is useful and worth it, IMO.

I don't hate Onstar. However i haven't had a babysitter since in was 9 year old and i don't need one now. I payed my Chevy dealer to disconnect the system in my Silverado. When i bought my 2015 C7 i told the dealer if Onstar was activated on delivery i would refuse the car, it wasn't. Screw BIG BROTHER!

We have the Guidance Plan on all three of our Chevys and have never had a problem with it. It is just like XM, I mark my calendar when renewals come up so I can call and make a good deal over their normal high rates. Your Corvettes navigation system is separate from On Star but if you do have On Star you can press the blue button and have the rep send turn by turn directions to your nav screen.

I have had On Star in my last several cars, wife's also. Never had a problem with them, and it has helped my wife many times trying to find her way out of the driveway.
The Nav system in my '15 Regal Gs is ok and I often get directions downloaded from On Star, or rather I should say the my wife does, it has been a blessing for her as she has no since of direction.
Don't like it OK with me, but never had an issue with them.

Waste of money is a valid opinion, but what is the reason you believe they are not ethical?

What's the point of Onstar? It offers zero value. Ditch it!

I have it since 2005 on all our vehicles that its been offered in and have had zero issues. Have no idea about the ethical thing that's been mentioned.

I hate OnStar with the intensity of a thousand white hot suns. Took me months to cancel it (kept getting the run around). I finally had to block them through my credit card company and dispute charges.

That is pretty intense

I'd love to correlate age to those who love their Onstar. I'm betting the older generation tend to give it thumbs up versus younger, more tech savvy drivers.

I have a smart phone. I have the C7 Nav. Let me repeat, I have a smart phone. If the car is stolen, I have insurance. If I crash in the middle of nowhere, which hasn't happened in the past 66 years, OnStar likely wouldn't save me anyway.

Offered on my last four Corvettes. Always let the freebie thing expire. No problem until my '16 expired. Constant BS Spam from OnStar. Not only a zillion emails, but they call my house a couple times a day warning me my free subscription ran out.

Waste of money.

Everyone will value this service (which it is because you pay for it) differently accordingly to experience.

Forturnately, i have not had to use Onstar for myself, but have called them twice for other accidents. Once for a minor one, and once for a horrific accident where Onstar was the only coverage. This was so remote that it took over 45 minutes for the ambulance to arrive.

My call to Onstar was the first to alert the authorities, even though there were others on the scene before me, but there was no normal cell phone coverage.

On Star has the same low level of customer service as Sirius!
I have been trying to get the Free 5 year Basic Plan activated for 2-1/2 years without success. Wanted to be able to use the remote start app feature. Hard to believe GM continues to let On Star treat Corvette owners in this fashion.
What ever you do, Do Not Give them your Credit Card number!

I disagree. Maybe you need to define "the older generation". I'm older than most of you and give it a thumbs down.

I used Onstar for the initial trial period. After that I said I would have liked it but $15 a month was too much.

If you decide to cancel, they insist you must do it with a phone call. If you do so by email they will continue to bill your account. This process is not very clear, and if you finally call them to cancel you will be billed for the full month unless you call prior to the start of the month.
Now this may seem like fair business practices to some but not to me.

I never renew past the free time. I do pay for it on my single daughters Acadia because she is on the road at night coming from work. For me, I just can't see the value in it, before the days of cell phones, maybe. What about all the poor people who don't drive a GM vehicle, how do they live without it? GM does a pretty good job of marketing and convincing people to be scared not to have it.

Younger more tech savvy drivers is one way to classify them.

I had in on my 2009 Sierra for a few years but cancelled when I decided it wasn't worth it.

Since then I have purchased a 2014 Silverado and a 2016 Corvette and declined it both times.
