Are the 2016 Z51's still having issues with the A8 transmission overheating on the track? I thought the 2016's had additional cooling that solved the issues. I was about to pull the trigger on a 2016 this Thursday. I do plan to track it at Mid Ohio and Putnam.

I have been authorized to share the following information about transmission cooling upgrades for the 2017 Corvette model year. Transmission cooling improvements are included with all 2017 Z51 automatic transmission Stingray and Grand Sport Corvettes. Furthermore, the manual Z06 and 8 speed Z06 will both receive cooling improvements as well. The cooling improvements will bring the track operating temperature threshold to 100 degrees.

Thanks for that update. What's the story with base A8 models?

There is no cooling upgrade to the base A8 Corvette because GM doesn't consider it to be the model that buyers would track.

So when you ask about applying this upgrading cooling package, the base A8 is not being considered? What additional parts/work would be needed?

I'm sorry, I should have said no upgrade to the base A8 2017. The kit very well may be applicable to the base A8 if someone wanted to upgrade a pre-2017.

I believe that GM should do the right thing for its loyal customers. It is clear to me that there is a product defect, which hopefully this FIX will solve.

Step up GM, and issue a TSB to have the dealers fix under warranty.

I have the same question. Also, what aftermarket kits are on the market to help with the heat exchange issues on the 2015 A8's?

Thanks in advance!

This shouldnt even be a problem for us to worry about. I myself have become a fanboy.

Zl1 is gonna wipe the track with z06s. Time for corvette to take pointers from camaro...and while they are at it...give camaro's engineer a shot at the vette's top office... After many vettes, I currently have a camaro 1le and im gonna miss that car. Helluva job by camaro. Shame on the cross flags.

Tadge may be annoyed at the shade tree engineers all have been forced to become. Desperate for a solution outside of their expertise...this is why customers PAY...so they dont have to be engineers.

Have you been able to determine what the specific 2017 Z51 A8 cooling improvements are? In 2016 the Z51 A8 included the front z06 A8 cooler as well as a larger cooler and duct in the left rear. So what is new in 2017?

Thanks

Bill

I'm sorry I wasn't able to answer this until now. I received the following today:

The 2017 Z51 8-speed vehicles will receive the front lay down auxiliary transmission cooler. This is the same cooler the GS and Z06 use. There will be a service communication to provide instruction on how to add the front auxiliary cooler to a past model 8-speed Z51. For the owner’s information, to add the front cooler the following body parts will have to be removed; front/rear fascias, left fender, left quarter panel.
I asked asked for clarification and was informed that the 2017 Z51 A8 front auxiliary transmission cooler is the same one that was in the 2016.

Thanks Jag. I appreciate it. Although I have not installed it yet, I think the cooler in the left rear quarter panel is the Z06 cooler but with the smaller Z51 fan and the Z06 duct. I will list those part numbers in the thread I started about the "kit". Again...I have not installed the larger rear cooler but am told by a reliable source that it will fit with the smaller fan.

thanks

bill

So if I understand that correctly, the 2017 Z51 8 speed is exactly the same as the 2016 (no improvement). Which is fine because the 2016 improvement seems to make a big difference.

Now the "service communication" is definitely different than the past promise of an "upgrade kit" for earlier models. Is there a date on the "service communication"?

2017 Z51 A8 is the same as 2016 with regard to cooling.

A date for the "service communication" was not provided, but the components of the kit should be provided.
