Sherman says Chevrolet will send the C7 off into the sunset in 2017

No thanks, I will put my faith in the engineers that I know from Corvettes at Carlisle that asked me plenty of questions over the years and allowed me to road test both a C6 Z06 and a ZR1 before they were available for sale.(hint they had manufacture plates on them) I hung with the crew up the hill by the flag pole and the Detroit and BG engineers spent a lot of time up there and we all got pretty friendly!

Early on it was stated that the C7 would be a short-run. Sort of a "filler" for the C8 which is what they really wanted to do with the C7. The GM bankruptcy really truncated the C7 development budget and basically got a "refreshed" C6. I.e. the same basic frame/suspension/body design. Yes the C7 is awesome, looks great, has a host of improvements vs. the C6, but the car is the same basic car as a C5.
I keep hearing they will be introducing a Zora "halo" car which will be shown next year as a '18 and then C8 will hit around 2020. This is the first I've heard of it all going mid engine right away.
$80k is just too much for a base price... I'm out at that level.

I don't believe for a second GM will end C7 production after only 4 years. Sales numbers are still at record levels and are expected to be at high levels for 3 more years.

I thought C7 sales were pretty bad. The C7 is in it's 3rd year and last I read is selling less than the C6 was in its 3rd year. Anyone can confirm?

I also strongly doubt the $80,000 price being thrown around by C&D. As Bob Lutz said 18 months ago, Tadge was well on his way to making a new mid-engine Corvette (the C7) when the bankruptcy occurred, and we got what is a shockingly good C5/C6 (I agree totally with TH). Lutz also stated that Tadge would be able to bring a mid-engine Corvette to market for about $5K RETAIL over the current car. That certainly makes it a lot less than $80K.

Way wrong. C6 sales tanked after 2008 and never recovered. 2008 they produced just over 35,000. C6 never sold more than 17,000 for an entire year after 2008. First two years of C7 sales were 37,000 and 34,000. If those kinds of sales figures hold steady there is no way GM would end production.

2006: 34k
2007: 40k
2008: 35k
2009: 17k
2014: 37k
2015: 34k
So, sales figures for the first two years of the C7 are identical to the first two years of the C6. Can't really compare beyond that yet.
Google is easy.

Bull. When I read the article it read like it was tongue in cheek.
Besides, they just came out with the GS. Sure, it's a 'parts bin' car, but why would they introduce a new car only to kill it off in a year before they can truly cash in on it.
Stupid marketing strategy. GM thinks with their pocketbooks - like any corporation with their head on straight. Introducing a new model when the C7 is this new would be foolish.

I think the record is held by the '79 Corvette.

C7 is leaps and bounds better than C6. Hoping GM will continue trend with C8. I'll be ready to sell my 2014 C7 in 2020. That seems more realistic for the 1st or 2nd model year for C8.

If the C7 is done after the 2017 model year why would they bring out the Grand Sport for one year? I don't think the C8 will come out until 2020

GM virtually invented the concept of line extension... they're not dumb.
My vote is that the "Mid-engine/Zora/C8/Loch Ness" will be a separate model priced north of the $100K+ price-point to move the brand up-market.
Lots of free profit margin there.
Any Marketing guy would see this as a no brainer.
