Default Quality blindspot mirrors?

I recently got a C7 Z06, which I love, but the blind spots (even with mirrors adjusted with what usually works well, aka none of your car in view) are pretty rough in the Corvette.

I also have a 2011 Mustang GT, and it has these mirrors by default - http://www.mustangheaven.com/blog/wp...9-1024x764.jpg

Is there an insert that I could get for the Corvette to have mirrors like this? Or a quality blind spot mirror from the aftermarket to plug on because the ones I've seen are all cheap and ugly...

Try what I tell my HPDE students;
  1. Roll-up left window, place the left side of your head up against the side glass and adjust the driver side mirror inward until you can just see the side of your car.
  2. Now move your head over your center console (right eye centered with rear view mirror) and adjust right mirror in just enough to see the side of the car.
  3. Adjust the center rear view mirror to see squarely out the center of the rear glass.

Now drive out on a multi-lane road a little slower than the surrounding traffic and follow the cars in your mirrors as they go by on each side. You will find that you can follow the car in the rear view mirror, then to the side mirror and the just as the car starts to move out of the side mirror it will become visible in your side vision.

The mirrors will feel awkward for a while until you get use to having them adjusted this way. Once you get use to it, you will be amazed at the coverage.

Having almost sideswiped numerous cars on my right, I'm in interested in answers here.

Those are within the group of "cheap and ugly" - unfortunately I looked into them already and they're not really that good in regards to quality. Thank you for the post though because any insight is appreciated!

After 2 years and over 10,000 miles I've never "almost sideswiped" a car and don't have worse blind spots than many other cars.

Me too. Went Gatlinburg last week (first trip in C7) and almost had disaster a couple of times. Just can't seem to get mirrors adjusted where I am comfortable with them.

I've never almost sideswiped a car but I'm most definitely less confident that there's nothing in my blindspot (without turning the neck) than in any other vehicle I drive. Even the Mustang, which has quarter window louvres, has significantly better viewability.

Regardless, at the end of the day, this isn't a battle of machismo, it's that more information obtained by the driver faster makes you a more prudent and safe driver. Blind spot mirrors do this efficiently. They don't harm you at all, so I don't see why you'd avoid using them.

No machismo; never felt a need for them.

YMMV

There have been lots of threads here since 2014 asking the exact same question. I just did a search and found 18 threads about this in C7 Gen, a couple of which have over 100 replies. You'd probably find what you need in them. I'd post the links but am on my iPad and need to catch my next flight.

Because of the small size of the C7 mirrors, any insert is going to be too small to do you any good (unless you have the eyes of an 18-yr. old). Honda has the best solution with their LaneWatch cameras. Maybe you should look into the NavTool?

OP, the only bubble type mirror add-ons that I've ever seen are the Pep Boys type. GL

Here's the fact: If you think you need blind spot mirrors on top of the side mirrors then no matter what you think, you don't have your side mirrors adjusted properly.

Default Wide Angle Mirror eliminates blindspots

My 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe has similar blind spots (2012 models added blind spot monitoring). In addition to proper side mirror adjustment, I have been using this wide angle rear view mirror:

Amazon.com: Fit System RM011 Clip-on Wide Angle Rear View Mirror: Automotive Amazon.com: Fit System RM011 Clip-on Wide Angle Rear View Mirror: Automotive

This mirror is large at 18.5 x 3.25 inches, with a 17.75 inch wide mirror. It fits over the current mirror and eliminates blind spots by providing a panoramic view. I have tried this on the Corvette mirror and it increases the field of view to the sides of the vehicle.

The only potential drawbacks are that it is a convex mirror (objects are closer than they appear) and the Onstar controls of the factory mirror are hidden. Some people may not like the large, truck like size. But it works for me.

Toward the bottom of "live's" url to Amazon ad there's another possibility. I tend to like it better: doesn't look like the round stick on mirrors, and 2 for $8 seems reasonable. Worth a shot if you ask me. What do you think?

I have used these for 2 1/2 years and really like them. They are glass not plastic mirrors. Got them on Amazon for about $10.
I put them in the same plces Ford did, it doesn't tank away from the view in the OEM mirror.
I never felt I needed them in my '88, '83 or '08 Vettes. But the visibility out the rear of the C7, especially with a spoiler is limited.

As you said I also set my mirrors per the SAE paper from 1995 as is recommends but it also says you need a broad view in the center mirror and the C7 does not have that!

Simple Solution, Use SAE Mirror Adjustment and Add Blind Spot Mirrors!

Like I said about 50 times, I don't think I need them, I say they make me more accurately ascertain that there's nothing in the blind spot. Which exists.

It seems to work quite well on the drivers side mirror. How much more of a view do the oval mirrors show on the passenger side mirror which already is convex?
