I sanded the original finish with 150, then 400 then 800 grit sandpaper. Then I rinsed it all off and dried it. right before I painted I used a tack cloth to get all the small stuff off of them. I did use a heat gun on the final coat between the clear coats. Idk if it actually helps or not, but It didnt hurt. There are no runs that I can see. I used regular painters tape and I had to make sure the tires were free of any tire shine. It stuck fine. I should have left the orange tires. Isnt the C6 lighter than any of the C7's?

Hi C7ers
I recently picked up this 14 3lt z51. I had a 10 GS and loved it but made the mistake of test driving a C7. IMO, this car is better in just about every way except for looks. I like the lines of the C6 better, but the overall package of the C7 won me over. Anyway, I decided to paint my stock wheels a dark metallic grey. Here are a few pics of the process. It was pretty fun and I think it makes my car look better. See what you think.

Well, I really like that look but I'm a bit biased.
Got my NRB '14 one month ago and, like you, am amazed by how much better this car is.

The center caps match almost perfect which was a happy accident. Im really pleased with the results.

What brand/specific color did you choose?

Those wheels look 100% better than your original silver wheels !

I used the off the shelf high temp paint from Autozone. It was the metallic gray they have in stock and then the matte clear. I think this goes with the theme of my car and ties in with the carbon fiber roof.

Looks so much better!! C6s always had the competition grey wheel option, shame they dont offer it today.

They will look bad all chipped up. the z51 is real hard on rear wheels. The stock silver chipped like crazy well before 5,000 miles
Then I had them stripped and powder coated them gray and they looked great at 9500 when I sold it.
