Out running Route 66.....again
The last time I ran the section of Route 66 between OKC and Shamrock Tx was in Feb '71 while on my way back from Ft. Gordon Ga an managed to get snowed in just into Texas. We got the very last room in Shamrock Tx, TDOT closed 66 because of the 2 ft. snow pack and we had to head south to Hwy 20.
Our room was two doors from the right in the back ground;
Across the street as this small diner....one of the few in town at the time. The poor waitress had to pull a 14 hr day because no one could get into our out of town.
If you are in Shamrock, stop here;
Go inside and say "HI" to our new friend, Hazel....on the right. Very nice lady and knows all about the town.
Here's a few other shots along the way;
Running the longest section of 66 tomorrow into Kingman Az and on to Oatman. More pics later....
Thursday; here's today's photos, we started in Ash Fork and drove to Oatman.......The first few shots are in Seligman Az.
The next few shots are from a wide spot just east of Kingman......Hackberry
We had lunch in Kingman at Mr. D's Route 66 Diner.....cool place
Next stop was a very small place just east of Oatman.......Coolsprings
Next photos are in Oatman......
This is the bar in the old Oatman Hotel....yes, your looking at $$$$$ wall paper......
A slideshow of all my photos can be found here on Photobucket; http://s147.photobucket.com/user/his...n%20Route%2066 Enjoy

I live in a town where Rt. 66 runs through. I have been to Shamrock, TX countless times and have stopped at that old "filling" station.

Sounds like you are having a great time on the trip. I've been on portions of Route 66 in various states, but some day would like to make the full trip.

Thanks for posting. I'm making my plans. Might leave from Chicago in mid September and take 2 weeks to drive to CA. Plan to order a couple books from Amazon to research things to see and do.
