I was using the passive lock feature, but recently stopped using it just because it's a pain when I go out to the garage and want to grab something out of the car and I don't have the FOB in my pocket. Don't need the car locked when in the garage. So now I just hit the lock button on the door when getting out.
I wish GM had a button to change it back and forth instead of the config menus. Many times i like passive, but as many have said, when working on it, i hate when it autolocks.
Have this on my CTS and intially set it to fob control but the one day i forgot to lock the car and the one day, i left it outside overnight, some azzhole got into my car and stole my stuff! So back to AUTO lock on ALWAYS

If you don't want it to lock when you get out, open the door, then push and Hold the UnLock button on the door until it beeps 3 times.
Now you can get in and out for any reason without it Auto Locking.
Next time you start the car, it goes back to Auto lock

Push the button. I don't want to get in the habit of just walking away, since my other cars don't have this feature. Plus, it's more reassuring to hear the beep after pushing the button.

FOB, or push lock button on the door when I exit.

I keep the fob in my pocket. I never hear a beep. I don't think it locks when I walk away. There is nothing of value in the car and most of the time, the top is down so locking won't do much.
In my area, people can be trusted. I leave it running when I go into the PO to get my mail.

I love auto lock!
I love never having to take my fob (or keys) out of my purse so much that eleven years ago, after setting this on my '05, I bought keypads for my house doors, so I never have to carry any keys in my hand.
I do pull it out once in awhile to remote start or put the top down.

FOB lock only because sometimes I want the car unlocked, like when I am working on it.

That's been my approach too. It fits the habits I have adopted with my other vehicles.
