GM/Chevy Request - Spoiler DELETE Option
Dear GM / CHEVROLET ,
I wish that GM/CHEVY would
let customers opt out of the
rear spoiler for the C7 Chevy Corvette.
(rear) SPOILER DELETE OPTION - NORSPLR
The C7 Chevy Corvette looks so
beautiful without the rear spoiler.
I would love to order a C7 with 2LT ,
magnetic select ride with the Z51
wheels without the rear spoiler.
Please consider this option.
Thank you ... Tom in Tennessee

GM has considered your request and now offers the "Spoiler Delete Package" for a mere $295.00. It consists of:
1 Screwdriver
2 pieces of duct tape
1 can of Krylon Spray Paint in the approximate color of your vehicle.
1 Instructions
Thank you for choosing Chevrolet!
Sincerely,
GM Customer Support

Here's the weird thing about OP's situation. The difference in price for the Z51 vs non-Z51 is $5,000. This includes a bunch of features, including
-larger tires/wheels
-spoiler
-MRC
-Performance Exhaust
-ELSD
-Rear cooler
-Snappier gear ratio
-dry sump
-stabilizer bars
- aero
Now if you just want a non-Z51 with MRC and Performance Exhaust you must add
MRC +$3495 gets you tires/wheels and spoiler, too
Exhaust + $1195
Total - $4690
which means that by ordering Z51 instead you get
Rear cooler that actually works (on coupe)
aero - so it says on site
stabilizer bars - might be more than that
dry sump
snappier gears
elsd
for a total of $310.
Might be some more stuff in there, too, but I'm just going by what the build site says. So if you want MRC and the Performance exhaust (Have you ever met anyone who didn't want that?) you really screw yourself over unless you just hate dry sump with a passion. Shows how they manipulate stuff with forced options.

I prefer the looks of the standard spoiler vs the Z-51 or other wing styles. To me, it shows the lines of the car much better from all angles, especially the slight downward slope of the rear quarter panels and buttresses on both sides of the rear glass. More downforce to be glued to the ground at over 150 mph is secondary.

The downforce on the Z06 is functional and active at 55 MPH as has been observed by me and others. Our experience was driving in a downpour in our stage 2 Z06 with added center wickerbill at 55 MPH, in weather mode, on an interstate. Observed the water coming up from the entire spoiler, arching upward a couple of feet and curving forward, with the water landing on the rear window and the top of the rear fenders exactly above the centerline of the rear wheels (why the rear spoiler arcs forward at its upper edge), and if water will do that, so will air molecules.

Actually you buy a new rear bumper cover and paint it to match. There is no way to fill the holes where the spoiler bolted on and have it be unnoticeable. No matter what you filled them with they would expand and contract at different temperatures and show back up.

High Wing should be available as a Regular Production Option on any Stingray
blade spoiler is overplayed same as Z51 wheels & Z06 style skirts

Couldn't agree more with the OP. What was Chevy thinking. If they couldn't do a better job of integrating the rear spoiler into the design, then at least have a delete option. I got the base Stingray because I will not be tracking it. Everytime I see a Z51 I look for the fuzzie dice hanging from the rear view mirror. Shame on you Chevy.

You can find the Vette wing and the fuzzie dice at any boy racer parts store. IDK. AT least Porsche has the good sense to hide the wing when it's not needed. And a WRX is a boy racer so the wing looks right at home there. Nothing against Subaru. I own a Subaru Outback, and like all other Subaru owners we love our Subies. The Vette wing looks like an after thought that was tacked because it is tacked on. If they couldn't deploy a spoiler when it is needed, then a simple lip spoiler would do the trick without spoiling the looks of one of the most beautiful vehicles on the road.

But again we get into the debate of to spoil, or not to spoil? Personally I don't like the looks of the spoilers that GM attaches to the car. I ordered a base model anyway so it wasn't an issue. Some drivers like the looks of the spoilers that is supplied even if they don't track the car and I understand that.

Not sure I would want an active spoiler, just more electronics, motors, mechanisms and COST. We already have enough of that stuff IMO.
I too am a Subaru guy and have own no less than 20. and currently own 3. With that said NONE are or have been WRX's.

Some like it some don't just like anything else
Originally I thought the C7 looked better without a Spoiler.
By the time I was ready to buy though, I liked it better with a Spoiler.
But that's just me, and agree GM should offer the customer a choice

The Z51 Performance Package comes with a spoiler as part of the total package for track use of Z51 C7s. Don't think they would offer a delete spoiler option IMO for a package designed for racing.
